My primary care physician has signed up with firm transitioning her to a concierge practice. They have bombed me with marketing material, calls, emails and so on.

I like the lady. She does some integrative stuff that has been helpful.

But this is just more out-of-pocket for me. At this point I just see her annually for a physical. And once extra last year for the gall stone attack. I'm otherwise healthy...for now. 61 yrs old.

Whaddaya think?

My mom who is around your age signed up for it with her doctor when he transitioned over to it. She absolutely loves it and utilizes a lot of the extra features that wouldnt normally come with a typical doctor/patient relationship. I don't necessarily think it would be worth it if you don't go to the doctor very often, but you may want to consider it based on your age (no offense) and how well you like your physician. It seems they are able to provide more detailed and better care because they only take on a certain number of patients.

I also went to him for my primary care, just because I didn't know who else to go to. When he moved over, I did not follow him because of the cost, and just now go to a different doctor in his old practice.

Is your current relationship and quality of care worth the extra money? That's really all you can ask yourself.

Sounds to me that you can get the same quality care with another physician. It's not like you're losing a specialist.

BUT, in your advanced age, who knows what illnesses are in your future.

Ours transitioned and we signed up. The main reason is practically no physicians in our area are taking new patients. At least ones that you would want to see. But man, I hate paying that bill.

I really like it, here's my main reasons the extra cost is well worth it to me.

When I show up, I go right in and see the doctor. Almost no waiting. I can text my doc anytime with a question, no answering service to go through. And, I really get to see and talk with an MD, not a PA or NP.
