I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Eddie Izzard. He was awesome, but I could see many right of center not getting him at al

Hm. I'm right of center and count his Dressed to Kill set as one of the best ever.
On the other side of the coin, he's not concerned about political correctness and may offend some of the more snowflakey of Leftists.

Then again, the last standup act of his I saw was early 2000s. Maybe he's tilted more political than historical/cultural like he was in those days.

Mitch Hedberg is 25% as funny to me as he is to the masses.

His podcast is fascinating but Joe Rogan’s standup just isn’t funny to me

Agreed.

I'm a regular JRE listener, but his standups are weak as hell. He's not really even doing comedy anymore, just riffing about observations.

Actually quite respected in most stand up circles, to my knowledge.

Stand ups like their peers that have great material.

Audiences like comics with great delivery.

Those with both are very rare and usually go on to be huge stars.

Tom Green was so painful that I hated everyone from Canada for a while.

Yep. His shite doesn't translate for gringos. He starts a bit in English and ends it in Mexican.

Pauly Shore was one of the least funny standup comedians I ever heard. Of course, possibly no one actually ever thought he was funny...

I have a buddy who's a big name in the standup scene and he once told me that Aziz is pretty hated amongst the NYC comedy circles. Apparently he use the be really cool then Parks n Recs happened and his ego exploded.

Let me start by saying that this is 100% plausible.

But it is also possible that all the stand ups still stuck in NYC comedy clubs are jealous that he got a break before them.

Just saying to take it with a grain of salt when it's coming from his competition.

Pryor, Chappelle and a few others were good at racial humor; you're not.

These guys don’t focus solely on race in their stand up either. Some of my favorite Chapelle bits are him talking about Ray Rice hitting the woman and Bill Cosby as a superhero that has to rape in order to save people.

Everytime I think about him I think about the first time I ever saw him. I really don't know how old I was, maybe in my pre-teens.. And I was spending the night at a friend's house.

His mom tells him that Gallagher was on tv. I never heard of him at the time so he tells me is this really funny comedian who smashes fruit that gets all over the people in the front row of his show.

We go watch it with his parents and they are all killing themselves laughing. I didn't think he was funny at all and just didn't get why watching this man smash fruit was so funny. So years later, I came across him on TV and decided to watch him thinking that maybe I was too young to maybe get the jokes when I was younger.. Well, that wasn't the case. And there was something about him that just annoyed the frick out of me.. So yeah, this is a good one.

I'm pretty middle of the road politically. I can just imagine his cross-dressing and hoity toity comedy landing with a this amongst the MAGA crowd.

I just think there is a certain pretentiousness to him, which is part of the appeal to me. I still want to see an elephant on skis.

The fact that his brother stole his schtick and imitated him doesn't help, either. You ended up with 2 Gallagher's smashing fruit
