I've had them for 4 years now. Seasonally. Usually in the fall. Always after I've fallen asleep for about an hour I wake up to the pain. They last about 30 minutes. Only thing that helps me is walking around. Cannot sit, lay or focus on anything. I usually end up pacing up and down my driveway. Pain is unbearable and I've been known to hit myself in the head to try and help it.
I'm terrified i get one while driving or at home alone with the baby. I cannot function much less take care of the baby. Neurologist gave me a shot for if I ever end up in that situation.

Who is this?
I have cluster headaches almost daily, has been going on about 7 years. Oxygen and sumatriptan injections make it possible to live life.
this was the documentary

Saw a documentary about this a while back. A guy in TX was taking shrooms every 3 weeks or so to prevent them. He said he hasn't had hardly any headaches since. It's sad that someone is able to tell another person that they can't take an "illegal" substance even though it helps them live a normal life.
ill try and find it

Here is an article I found that mentions using the drugs to treat various illnesses.

Positive results have also been found in the application of MDMA for PTSD and LSD for cluster headaches.

That doesnt sound like a cluster headache.

Definitely haven't had anything this severe, but I've had fairly frequent headaches since I was a kid that feel like certain parts of my head are going to explode and the only that helps is when I squeeze really hard on my skull. I used to try to get my girlfriend to do it for me but it takes a serious amount of force to do any good and she was too scared to do it to me

Talk about obvious
So overloading your brain with serotonin helps depression and anxiety?

There is no going to bed with a cluster headache.

it is...figured it out by process of elmination. Typically the most brutal part of it is fairly limited in time, but I have precursor and residual headaches

I've been diagnosed with cluster headaches, but they resemble cluster headaches with a trigeminal neuralgia component, or vice-versa. The only thing that helps is zomig (a triptan). When I get the short 'attacks', it's 10-30 seconds of excruciating pain that is like no other I've ever felt. Many times, I thought 'surely I'll die, now' because the pain seems so bad. When I'm in that type of cycle, I get them, one after another, every day, over and over. They can be triggered by a smile, wind blowing on my face, temperature changes, my teeth touching, or just out of the blue. The 'headaches' come on with either a burning sensation in my right nostril, or aching in my teeth. Zomig will ease the pain 90% of the time. Usually, once a month or so, I'll get one that gets out of control and it's 8-12 hours of out of control pain. I'll usually lay down, in the dark. However, laying down makes it hurt worse. It's just the only thing I can do. I've had multiple CT scans, MRI's and an MRA. All normal. I've tried at least a dozen prescriptions, none work as a preventative.

I read my reply, the grammar was frightening as hell, too.
Yeah, all this just started happening around 2007. The short attacks freaked me out, and my first reaction was to grab my head. Big mistake, it only intensifies the pain. The longer lasting 'headaches' usually feel like a large hook has been shoved through my right eye and exits my right ear. From what I've read, my symptoms don't exactly fit cluster headaches, but that's what the doctors tell me. To me, the short attacks more closely resemble something called SUNCT and the longer lasting 'headaches', I don't know... They usually last for hours, if I don't take Zomig. What's really frustrating is that exertion seems to be my biggest trigger. So, when I get a really good workout, I end up paying for it.

I have cluster headaches. I get them once every couple of months. I started taking fiorcet anytime I remotely feel a headache coming on which has helped as far as I know.
I can't describe the pain except that it is incapacitating. Always on the right side of my head. The pain is so bad that I can't even talk or move from a fetal position. That being said, I can tell you that I never had anyone beat me in the head to relieve the pain.

Oh, caffeine is your friend. A good energy drink can help 'abort' the onset, sometimes. A good prednisone taper can help, too. I think I was able to kill the cycle of short attacks with a taper, a few months ago. As long as I have Zomig, I can live a mostly normal life. I only get 12 a month, so I have to be careful. Getting close to the end of the prescription before it's time to refill can cause some serious anxiety. What really bothers me is that the stress and anxiety of my head problems can cause me to have a short temper with my family. I really hate when I'm hurting and I'm short tempered with the kids.

They are talking about giving soldiers high doses of cortisone after a traumatic event. The Cortisone basically shuts down your short term memory and you forget the event. Pretty cool shite.

Similar to mine - had them off and on for several years now. Had a headache Neurologist prescribe Varapamil which helps prevent and reduce intensity, but still have them in cycles. May get one every day or two for 2-3 weeks, then may not reoccur for a month or more.
Would wake up after 1-2 hours asleep with one. Also found Relpax does help knock one out if taken as soon as possible when one starts.
Mine always start on left side of upper jaw and move up to left temple area, always in the same places. Like the OP, have to stand up and move around. Just that seems to help most of the time. Tried oxygen - helped temporarily, but never would get rid of one.

Interesting, since my Neurologist had me get off caffeine. Said it was one of the normal triggers. Alcohol would almost guarantee one every time so have to be very careful with drinking.

These headaches sound like a real clusterfrick.

A bit of oxygen has the most rapid impact I'm told.
My wife gets them occasionally but nothing like what is in the video. They are fairly short lived but very painful.

Never a truer statement if you ask my wife. After seeing her suffer through cluster headaches, I wouldn't wish those on anyone.
