Find someone else's abandoned project that ran out of money/desire to finish that has already spent the big bucks.

Never do it as an investment unless you are doing all the work yourself to a professional level.

63 Impala?

Yes. I originally wanted a 64, but I am starting to really fall in love with the 63. I like the trim on the trunk, and I like the front grill and lights layout more than the 64. I really want a convertible, but I really like the look of the hardtop. Plus the hardtop will be better support if I decided to put hydraulics on the car in the future. I'll still have to reinforce the frame, but it will be a little less with the hardtop.

Some good advice in this thread.

This was my mom's daily driver in the 80's, Original matching #'s '64 SS 327 4speed manual. All the kids at school would make fun of me when she dropped me off, they call it "The Big Banana". They and I were too young to appreciate the coolness of the car.

The '68 Charger was also ours, Original Matching #'s R/T 440ci 6 Pack with pistol grip 4speed manual. My older brother stole it out the garage one night, raced it and drove it 50yrds in the marsh, luckily no water inside the car/hydrolock. When my dad got it home he popped the hood and there was a water lilie on top of the breather.

That SS is sick. I love those rear skirts on the second picture.

Agree, it's a small touch but completely changes the look and vibe of the car.

Oh no doubt, that 440 was an animal. We went to Crusin The Coast 20yrs ago and a guy 3 rooms down pulls up in the Charger. He was the neighbor of the guy we sold out to 20yrs earlier. It still had the same paint job, but he blew the 440 and put in a 360.

Id kill to have that car back.

If we had a dollar for everytime that phrase has been heard or written

Helped a buddy pull, repair and reinstall his fuel tank on his 65 coupe. Wasn't that bad after we cut the mufflers off.
He was going to replace them anyway so that was an easy decision. Did you finish your soundproofing?

Yep, got the soundproofing done, I have
heat barrier to go down, then the carpet. Will try to work on that Saturday. I have a new driver dash panel I need to put in and last time drove the car the ignition switch was hot to touch so I need to change that well. So many "while I'm at it" projects. Then November /December is trailing arm bushings.

Have you been driving with this great weather?

The sound proofing/ heat barrier made a big difference for me as it will for you. I now know how crappy those sound bar speakers really are!
Been taking it out regularly. No issues, knock on wood.
I did the trailing arms this past summer. I sent them out to Bairs and they back came looking new. Good folks to deal with. The removal and install wasn't that bad. The pivot bolt came right out and the mount pockets looked great. I went back with rubber bushings, the stories about the polys failing shied me away.

Eta If you haven't done the mod for slotted shims and adjustable strut rods, now is the time to do it. Makes everything so much easier. Your alignment guy will hug you

Sweet Caddy.

We took this '53 Eldorado to the Concours D'Elegance, Only 532 were built and this is one of just 43 produced in Aztec Red. Fidel Castro purchased 5 of them. To say this car drives like a dream is an understatement.

I installed Vette Brakes and Parts offset arms and unbeknownst to me they used cheap poly bushing and I used the slotted shimes. 15yrs and less than 1K miles later they are dust. I'm going back with Bair's rubber and I purchased the tool as well.

get a mig welder, use shielding gas, and start where your welds won't be seen. by the time you get the floor in it, your welds may be good enough for the exterior. watch a lot of youtube videos about spot welding instead of running a bead, due to heat warpage. you won't be welder; you'll be a grinder, but that's ok. bondo is your friend. 2nd coat covers everything.

If you need a really good mechanic and body shop, I HIGHLY recommend R&D Motorsports in BR. The guy that owns it is meticulous and really knows what he is doing and his team is the same. Not cheap, but he guarantees his work. I’m the third owner on this Mustang and I got it from a guy who inherited it from his grandmother. R&D is putting in a new 302 from Summit. He asked if I wanted a bigger engine/more hp and I really didn’t see the point. She’s a beauty queen cruiser. I’m not out doing burnouts and drag racing the Chargers and Challengers and Camaros and new Mustangs. Good luck! Can’t wait to see what you get and how it turns out! I love driving mine.
