Not Atlanta itself but the fricking Atlanta suburbs cities are annoying as frick. Peach tree city, Alpharetta, Marietta, your the fricking problem. You want to commute making everyone's life miserable for 4 hours a day, frick you.
No, dumbshit, the problem is not the suburbs. The problem is the slum trash that led to the necessity of suburbs. You think people want to commute every day? The ghetto trash and the government programs that enable it, specifically Section 8, are the problem.

Philadelphia to both without question. They think that they are the greatest city that has ever hit America, but feel that their thunder has been taken from them by NYC, Washington DC, and Boston. They feel as if the entire status of their city has been stolen from them, that they should be the capitol of the United States, and they know that most of America doesn't give two shits about their city. When they realize you don't share their opinion on their city, prepare for insults at best and an attempted asskicking at worse. No group of people are more simultaneously proud and insecure about their city. There are a lot of cities with self-pride and self-hate, but not to the point that a large portion of the populace will kick your arse if you question their greatness or what exactly was stolen from them.

What a terrible thread...

The only people I know that have lived in BR at some point and hate it have serious issues in their life and don't want to take personal responsibility for those issues. Every well-adjusted, normal person I know likes BR perfectly fine.

Self-hate: Little Rock. They believe everyone thinks of them as knuckle draggers out of a Lil' Abner comic.
Self-pride: Every one claims to be related to Paul Revere ... or Whitey Bulger.

If you read these forums it's easy to think NOLA and BR each qualify for both.

Self pride and hate: Houston.
The inner loop professionals love it. Great museums, restaurants, sports, nightlife. A city with a lot of originality, green space, and culture.
Suburbanites hate it and rightfully so. I've never been in more of a cookie cutter cubical like place than Katy, Pearland, Sugarland, Woodlands, etc.
The thing that aggravates me the most is when people express their extreme hatred of houston after having 'lived' there. When asked where they lived they mention one of the burbs. Well, idiot, you didn't live there then.

You sure about that? I'm not sure another industry like the automobile industry will reoccur again within the U.S. What will rejuvenate Detroit to that level of prosperity and affluence again? It will take a lot to make it the beacon of the middle class dream it once was...
The auto industry is doing great. More cars are built and sold in the US today than ever. Detroit just isn't where there are built en masse anymore.
The entire Great Lakes region has similar issues. Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Erie, Detroit, Toledo, Chicago and Cleveland have all lost massive manufacturing jobs. Pittsburgh has reinvented itself. Chicago was always very diversified. The major white collar and engineering workers in the auto industry are still centered around Detroit, but much of it is in the suburbs....which are actually not bad. Not sure what Cleveland and Buffalo are doing to stage a resurgence.
I can say this about Midwestern/rust belt towns.....people there are generally better grounded and less full of themselves than the east coast cities like Philly, DC, or New York.

May not be related to local pride.....but I think Dallas is more like Atlanta or Nashville than Houston. People dress more preppy there for whatever reason. Houston is more casual like Memphis or OKC....which is IMO a good thing.
Sometimes I think Baton Rouge is becoming more like Atlanta than Houston in character.

New Orleans has the most irrational self pride.
Self hate - Any small town in the MidWest.

Irrational Self Pride: All of Texas...where shite doesn't stink.
Irrational Self-Hate: LSU fans...where the greatest run in the football program's history is cause for outrage.

I'm from Baton Rouge and I don't know of anyone that has irrational self-pride in Baton Rouge.
At MOST, some people used rose colored glasses when discussing the future of the city and the potential it has.
Never, ever hear people talk about how great it is now or how proud they are to be from there. Its usually the opposite. All my friends left and openly admit how much it sucks. I would almost put Baton Rouge in the "Irrational Self-Hate" category instead.
It IS getting better though with the new downtown and the promising development opportunities between it and LSU.

Irrational self-pride: Texas (pick a city)
Irrational self-hate: Cleveland. Sure they have proud folks, but a lot of people up there don’t appreciate the changes going on. It is improving pretty rapidly as a place to live and raise a family.
Also, I would like to add that the most untalked about fantastic city in America is St. Paul/Minneapolis. That place is incredible.
Carry-on.
