I have about 30-40 cigars in a desk humidor that I rarely smoke. I change the bovida packs about every 6 weeks. I use the 69 humidity ones. About half of my cigars have started eating plume on them Any of youguys have a humidor at home?

Several years ago, I had a converted wine cooler humidor at home. I had about 200-250 cigars in it, it became more of a collection to obtain, rather than to smoke. I lost interest in the constant maintenance, which really wasn't too much, but I was always afraid to lose my "investment". Slowly got rid of them all, I do miss it sometimes.

Had some very well aged sticks in there. Perhaps my palette wasn't as refined, never could tell a well aged vs. new with too much distinction.

I currently have a wineador but I honestly don't know how many sticks I have in it.

Also congrats on the plume.

What color? And "eating"? Is that an accurate term?

No, it's not an accurate term.
That plume/bloom is a good sign, just watch it closely to make certain that it isn't mold.

I've lost cigars due to mold, stuff I had for years. I have a coolerdor in the bottom of my closet, and now have stuff stacked on top of it, so I don't maintain like I really should.

Never understood the boveda packs. I used to use them and two 70's would dry up in about a month, where the gel lasts for 4-5 months and still maintains humidity. I can understand using them for travel but why do people use them at home?

Wipe off and smoke? Seriously, take humidor apart and wipe inside and all parts with a sterile cloth. Carefully wipe cigars and place in a zip loc baggie. I actually placed my humidor in the sun, wide open for about 6 hours or so. Calibrate humidor, refresh humidifiers and clean water. Put it back together and your good to go.
