I'm thinking about buying all of the tools. Anybody try this? I don't want it to be a disaster. I guess all I need is a brush and about 20 feet of rod

You should definitely do this yourself. Should be really easy.

Dick Van Dyke does mine. And it comes with a free song (I assume it's free, never really looked at the bill cause it's written in British).

You will also want a bit of cardboard. Cover your opening with cardboard except a hole large enough for a hose from your shopvac. Keep the shop vac running while you are cleaning from up top. The chimmney sweeps use the expensive filters on their vacs so it doesn't get the customers house all dusty/dirty

I have that. My pipe is 12" but I can't figure out what the square brush is for. I'm thinking I should use round but there are a lot of square brushes.

A lot of the older fireplaces use a square brush. The house I owned up north used a square one.

Yes that's all well and fine, but what of the street-urchins who can't do a dance for my amusement? Would you have me support them as well? I'd box their ears between the curbs sooner than have my tax dollars squandered on their poor houses and debtors prisons!! No. God willing, the winter will be a cold one, each night more bitter than the last. And we shall see our civil streets littered with more of these ragamuffins every morning!!
