My company is giving my the option of a Ford Explorer or a Traverse. If you had to pick one which would you choose? I haven't had either one so my knowledge of these cars is limited.

I'd go with the Traverse. Have had its model mate, and it's been a fantastic vehicle.

Loaded Traverse. The 2024 editions are sharp AF, if they are out yet.

I'd prefer neither but if I were unfortunate enough to be in that situation, I'm going explorer.

If 2023, I'd pick the Explorer. That's a pretty comfortable ride. Plenty of space and power. Kind of crappy interior though.

If 2024, I'd pick the Traverse. It's got a very good interior. The exterior looks surprisingly good IMO for such a long vehicle:

The Traverse will ride better and be quieter. The Explorer will handle better.

If you can get your hands on the 2024 model Traverse, that's probably the best all around.

I believe the Explorer has a truck power train and rear wheel drive while the Traverse is front wheel drive.

The Traverse is supposed to get better MPG if that matters.

Personally, I like the Explorer.

I’d probably go with the new Traverse unless your company is letting you get the Explorer ST edition. Those things are pretty quick. Most Explorers are just the cheaper 4 banger models though.

I don’t like the Traverse styling that was out a year or two ago. But the new ones are very nice looking.

we have the 2009 and it's a PoS. I want it to die for good so i can justify getting out of a paid off car.

that being said, the acceleration in car technology from 2009-2024 is insane.

2024 Traverse looks nice, but damn I hate that piece of sheet metal that juts up like a backward shark fin behind the C pillar. Looks damn ridiculous. GM is always good for something dumbshit like that in the design.

The guy is getting a company vehicle, not buying one of these. What’s unfortunate about that?

Also, you sound like a pompous douche.

Choose the brand whose nearest dealer service department sucks less.

In our area that's an easy choice.

Have owned both.

Always liked the Traverse as a family vehicle, plenty of room, handled/drove well, think it was 2012 ish. Plenty of power. Front wheel drive. I think the one we had was V6 and got 22-25 mpg. Can't remember if it had 3rd row or not.

Have owned two Explorers. Most recent was 2019. They are heavier vehicles so get as much engine as possible. Only had a V6 in it and was sluggish, they used to offer a turbo charged version, highly recommend if available. I got an upgraded package on it and it drove like a sports car. Quiet, decent mileage around 20 mpg. Just traded it in July on new F150 and I do miss it a lot when hauling family/friends. Plenty of interior room for people and stuff (3rd row seat folds down). Got bucket seat option for 2nd row much better than bench type.

If I was buying either of the two on my own dime, I'd buy another Explorer. Didn't have any mechanical issues with either the Explorer or Traverse.

They’ve both worked out the issues on the earlier models. Not bad choices overall.

The interior of the Explorer is still pretty bad though. It’s due for an update, and I think it’s getting one for 2025. You can tell the dash is designed for rental and police fleets. Should be comfortable though.

And neither of them has as good of an engine as the Honda Pilot IMO. Not a lot of info on the new Traverse engine except that it’s derived from the 2019+ Silverado’s turbo engine, which has been powerful and reliable so far, but not really fuel efficient. But I guess you can’t really expect fuel efficiency out of vehicles this big.
