Doctors at Great Ormond Street did not agree, with lawyers representing the hospital saying the 'clinical picture' six months ago had shown irreversible damage to Charlie's brain.

This whole situation was one fricked up mess. Odds are that any treatment given in the United States would not have helped, but as a parent I would try anything if it there was even a slight chance that it could help my kid. I don't understand why the Brits would not let them leave on their own dime and come to the U.S., other than it would put the NHS in a bad light and not give some pencil-pusher a power trip.

Other than being kept from leaving I don't know much about this who ordeal. Why couldn't they leave the country?

The government wouldn't let them remove their child from the hospital. There was never a good reason other than the treatment was a long shot and the government didn't want to prolong any potential suffering. Keep in mind, under socialist medicine, the government owns you and your children.
Trump, the leader of the most powerful country in the world, wanted Charlie here.
The U.S. Congress voted to grant Charlie permanent U.S. residence.
The internet raised about $1.75 million to pay for his treatment.
A doctor in the U.S. agreed to admit Charlie and treat him.
The Pope said that Charlie should be allowed to be treated in the U.S.
But the socialist healthcare system of the UK said no, so that was that. A child must die to glorify socialism.

My son has mitochondrial disease. Though we are very fortunate that he is doing well, this story is absolutely terrifying to me. I hope every person who had a hand in the chain of cruel and egocentric decisions made for that baby all roast in hell. Sooner rather than later preferably.

I would have been at that hospital with an arsenal of weapons trying to remove my child. There would be a shootout before I allowed this bullshite to happen.

I think the family had raised the money through Go Fund Me and there was a doctor here who would treat.
