Yes I'm aware... But I've never been the only Medallion flyer on any DL flight

Your point?

You said Exit Row seats can't be booked in advance and are only assigned at check-in.

Relevance to the OP's situation?

He said he didn't want to drive from Bossier to Monroe to standby and not be able to depart earlier.

I said he can get an idea if it's worth the risk by checking how many unsold seats are still available the night before.

If there are a lot of unsold seats, he would probably clear the standby waitlist. If not, then probably not.

He can also call Delta 3 or so hours prior to the earlier departure time he wants to standby for and they can confirm the # of unsold seats.

I've done it numerous times and have always cleared the same day earlier departure waitlist when the website indicated a good number of unsold seats.

If it hasn't worked for you, sorry to hear it.

See the unassigned seats with the asterisks? That's the exit row.

I wonder why that entire exit row is unassigned when most of the other seats are assigned?

Because to select the exit row seats ahead of time you need to be a Medallion. Thus, on the example I showed you earlier there are seats available yet Y is sold out. As I said, seat maps are not indicators of seat availability.

And the seats with the astriks are the forward exit row. The astrik means that there is no recline. I have a confirmed seat in the rear exit row as I showed you on the seat map, booked ahead of check-in.
