Congrats on you complimentary silver status... I am a segment flyer so I hope to never hit MM status.

You can say whatever you want but I've seen available seats on oversold flights many a time. There is a reason the website is referred to as delta.dumb

This got lost with the edit on the last page:

quote:

ETA: For instance, DL 5518 for tomorrow morning is oversold in coach (no Y availability) but shows two available seats in row 12.

It's never failed me whenever I've wanted to fly standby earlier the same day. 100% successful.

Until this year, why were you flying standby? Assuming you were a GM or higher with that level of MQM accumulation, you would have just been able to SDC to an earlier domestic flight at long as there was Y1 on a coach ticket or F1 on a first class ticket.

I use it for times of flights only... Anything else and their website is just unreliable

Exit row. They can't assign those until they make sure the person can handle the exit row's duties and they will do that at check in.

If the flight showed numerous unsold seats, a passenger wanting to fly standby earlier on the same day could be confident he will clear the standby waitlist. Not guaranteed, but it's likely he will clear the list.

If it only shows 1 or 2 unsold seats, it's likely he would not clear the standby list.

I ALWAYS book exit row seats at time of booking on the CRJ regional jets

Wrong assumption.

I'm lifetime Silver Medallion and it will go to lifetime Gold Medallion when I hit 2,000,000. I have not been GM or higher for several years.

So I've used the standby process I've described many times. It's never failed to work. But maybe it doesn't work for you.

They assign them at booking as long as you click that you meet the exit row guidelines.

Unless those seats have been protected but not assigned for a myriad of reasons. Seat map is not an indicator of Y availability.

Could be 2 seats showing open but +11 on the positive space. Two weeks ago I had seats assigned on 2 different ATL-MSY flights because of flight delays, obviously I was only taking one of them. And because my ticket was manually reissued, the seat on the later flight I did not take remained assigned even after I took the first flight I had a seat on.

ExpertFlyer is a better gauge of availability on a specific flight than seat maps.

Yes. Not everyone is Silver. Not everyone even belongs to the Skymiles FF program.
