At least one person was thrown in the water following a wreck on the southbound Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Monday afternoon, bridge General Manager Carlton Dufrechou said. The southbound bridge currently is closed.

Dufrechou said the accident occurred around the 20-mile marker, but had no additional details.

Causeway authorities threw a life ring to the person who went over the railing and were able to rescue him, Dufrechou said.

Good Lord, had to reroute last Thurs because of a wreck and just made it back home from our appointments today. I pray every time I go across that this doesn't happen.

another semi? wrecking and shutting down Causeway, that's two in a week. I think it's too skinny for them, they need to take the Twin Spans and Manchac bridges, keep them off Causeway.

I agree with that. It's terrifying to be caught next to one.

How often are there wrecks on the causeway? I travel the basin and it seems like an everyday occurrence. Never hear much about causeway accidents

OK, so would you rather:

Drive the causeway every day, or the old Huey Long bridge every day//

I pity the people that work in NOLA and live on the northshore for that sole reason.

We moved from New Orleans to the Northshore when I was little. My dad commuted from '97 until Katrina

Thats not how would you rather works.. would you rather puts two hypotheticals against each other, resulting in you having to pick one of the two, but not any other more logical choices, cause the two choices given are supposed to suck equally, therefore making the choice more difficult, but still shitty no matter which you pick...

but i get your point.

Second major accident in vicinity of Causeway work vehicles. Makes you wonder WTF the Causeway police are doing out there.
