the largest ship among the Carnival Cruise Line vessels was leaving the Marina del Nettuno port in Messina, Sicily, on Aug. 28 when it reportedly began moving sideways. The ship reportedly gunned its engines a bit to correct itself and managed to pull away without hitting the wooden piers or boats head-on.

As the massive ship moved away from the docks, the water began rising in a thick wake. As the wave moved towards shore and the marina, the churning water began smashing through the docks and sinking boats that were moored in the port.

It was better the first time it was posted and described as "Floating Trailer Park destroys marina".

The ship was part of the Kriegsmarine apparently.

I saw that but didn't want to post a FB video. Dude was so close to pulling it off. Goes to show how powerful those thrusters are.

dayum. that little dock just got destroyed. i guess it was either what happened or have the whole cruise ship take it out.

From that second video, that wasnt the thrusters.

From the first video, it looked like they had the rudder probably hard over(to port) and went ahead on the engines to kick the stern away. All the water being pushed away was heading to the floating dock anyway, but the structure directly behind the stern kept the water from escaping out to the other end on top of that. That floating dock had no chance.

By that point they likely needed the main props to begin forward motion but I would imagine the main structural damage to the pier was the initial surge from the thrusters.

Of course I may be 100% wrong, just my assessment.

The local port authority estimated the damage to be around $280,800 according to a statement obtained by local media.

I would have thought more than that for sure.
