Damn, now I feel bad. We were complaining about traffic meanwhile some family wrecked and lost a loved one.

Why was the driver driving on the shoulder?

On I-10, the truck was described as speeding well over the speed limit and weaving in and out of traffic. Just before toppling over the guardrail, the driver was seen passing on the shoulder. One witness said the truck ran out of safe space, flipped and dropped to the ground below.

wow that's absurd. For the sake of a child in the car, hopefully alcohol wasn't involved.

This sounds right. I passed by a few minutes later and saw what was left on the interstate, looked like a few small cars with minimal damage, no trucks. Strangely, there was an ice chest and bud light cans on the ground by the guardrail. I figured they had to have fallen out of a truck, but couldn't find the truck. I assumed it was a hit and run. I suspect this guy drinking with his kid in the car

Well ya he's dead. If he was by himself I think we could all make a Darwinism joke out of this but unfortunately it's just a sad story as the POS had a female and kid in the car.

Wafb only reports a woman and man. No child. There was an abnormal amount of jackass driving in BR yesterday. I witnessed pickups traveling near about 90 mph passing in the right lane with nobody in the left at all. Wtf is up with the idiots driving through BR lately?

It's always been like that.

But with time, you're right, it has gotten progressively worse.

Jesus. Hope the kid is okay. If the driver is the only fatality I can live with that. I have to believe there was alcohol involved.

At 10am people were driving like that yesterday. People in this area just believe it's their right to drive 80mph plus through the city. 3 days ago I was driving home from work and saw an event similar to what was described. Car going about 70 in the left lane in a 60 had a truck going about 80+ come flying in an got pissed that the guy was only going 10 mph over in the left lane and tried to pass in the emergency lane.

Unbelievable, just awful.

Isn't there a concrete barrier there that's supposed to keep this from happening? Did the vehicle go completely through it or over it?

Over it. Passing on shoulder, which there is very little of at that spot.

Mobile link

Driver died. Female and 1 year old passenger were also in the truck. If the link doesn't open, look on Nola.com

Never mind, didn't read the full thread to show that info had already been covered. So, I guess I have nothing add.
