My exchange student thought he could drive my wife's Honda Odyssey through 2 feet of water (his words, possibly more). It stalled and we could not get it started even after the water receded. Others around him did the same thing but had better luck and were able to drive away. The cabin didn't get water in it but he told me he was trying to plow through it quickly to get to higher ground.
I would hope after drying out a bit it would start but I don't have such luck with vehicles. What are we looking at WRT to repairs?

Now 24 hrs later, garage we usually go to has 2 week backlog so towed it to the house. Dripping oil so I suspect that major damage was done. Wet water filter confirms water ingested. Insurance comp. was called yesterday so and we’ll let them handle it. Thanks for the input. As upsetting, inconvenient, and costly as this will be in the long run it’s just a car. I’ve read a lot sadder stories on TD to help keep things in perspective.

Well you should call you insurance. That would be a covered loss - assuming you have comp. Let them figure it out.

But don’t be surprised if it’s totaled.

Was anything else wet that he was trying to plow through that could have been in your wife’s Odyssey ? Need more clues.

My guess is it’s not going to be good
I went through much less in 2016 & my car was totaled, no water in cabin that I could find

I hope it turns out better for you

Probably hydro-locked. Depending on how hard you tried to start it, you may have done major damage. If your engine gets flooded while the car is off it can be fixed. If you stall it with water or try to start it for a significant amount of time while there's water in it, you likely did some damage.

MB air intake was right near the front grill. Seen a totaled MB going through 10” of water pushed up by a f150 driving on the other side of the street.

Better throw that badboy up on Facebook Marketplace for a quick sale, baw, before anyone is the wiser.

Disconnect the fuel injectors, pull the plugs and spin it over. Dry out the computer with compressed air. If its still dead you probably did major damage.

But its bad to hydro lock a motor while its running, water does not compress.

LIES. Exchange students wouldn't use imperial measurements. He would have said meters or "metres" more likely. You're embarrassed that you drove your wife's Odyssey through the water. And you should be.
