Exactly...somebody will buy that car at that price. They are banking on the stupidity of the majority of people.

Once they accepted it, what costs have they since incurred to own the vehicle, list it, insure it... What about all of the other indirect overhead that needs to be considered. They also don't operate as a charity, so it's understood that anything they sell would have a profit margin associated with it

All true.

But if they are listing it for $5,500, that tells me they aren't serious about needing to sell it. And if they can let it sit on the lot, then the carrying costs must not be much.

As others have said, I'd be curious if this dealer has similar issues on other cars on the lot, or if they maybe just mispriced this vehicle.

At this price, you are basically acting as a "buy here, pay here" type lot.

The beauty of capitalism is that you arent forced to buy from the dealership as there are other options. If you werent allowed to privately buy vehicles from random people on the internet, then we’d have a different problem.

Another beauty of capitalism is we can mock companies when they do dumb things like this.

You can get $5k cars in Houston. I'm seeing a 2013 Chevy Spark with 110k miles for $5k

Hmmmmm...not a bad idea. Are the prices that much better than BR or around here?

Some of yall commenting need to look at the pics of this car.

Stab wounds with rust, random stains pretty much covering all the seats, just a complete shitshow from top to bottom.

Major markets have more supply and thus better prices. Bought my last car in Dallas for this reason; pretty even comp in NOLA was 12% higher.

They’re all one and the same at the end of the day but we can all thank jackasses like car max for this crap. Those bastards thought they were slick in buying preowned vehicles and offering outrageous amounts of money for vehicles during those corona years. Now they’re (all dealerships) are having to deal with that mess in a roundabout way, as well as the general public.

Is it as easy as looking what's available online in the Houston market, talking to some salespeople, and driving there to get it?

KBB doesn’t take into account the current supply of the market right now. If you can actually find that car as a private sale for $1600, buy it. I’m not sure you can though.

Take a look at any used vehicle. Asking price is substantially more than worth of said vehicle.
