I was looking for a Maverick for my son. I have a text from a dealership in Texas that has one in stock that they are willing to sell me for $40,012. They also sent me the Window sticker that says the truck is $27,900 before add ons. All I could do is laugh

Yea. Many are worse off..

Consumer debt is putting a lot of downward pressure on the average consumer.. the data is there and only getting worse as rates climb.. only question is how steep and how far is the decline on the base consumer driven side of the economy..

Are Mavericks that in demand to command the dealer premium? Are people paying it?

The hell do they go from 29k on the sticker to 40k in a text message?

Send em that window sticker and see what their justification is for the extra 13k. Do it for the OT lulz!

It’s simple, interest rates suck and dealerships got greedy with mark ups. Nobody wants an EV also that is essentially a throwaway car with no potential trade in value later.

Will do.

I ask him yesterday if he meant to put $30,012 and got no response.

Got him with the last response. Evidently the guy doesn't know what he's talking about. 2023 standard motor was the hybrid engine. 2024 it's optional

Coworker picked up a Subaru Crosstrek yesterday, paid 38k cash and it took two months to arrive.

38k for a Crosstrek.

I’m driving a 2012 Yukon XL. Has never been in the shop. Will drive it until it turns to stone.

Nice. I have a 2016 with 98k miles. Guess I have a good 10 years left worst case scenario

Really sad how many people around here would rather support the Chinese and drive a soyota over a real American Chevy or Jeep

I had no problem buying a Lexus last year knowing the car would last for 250,000 miles.

The pride of driving an old vehicle for 250K miles is odd to me. The same way those people criticize others who drive newer cars or expensive cars. It’s all just a weird subculture of who the F cares.

Today I drove by my local repo lot, one of those gravel lots with a trailer, you know the kind of place. I drive by it probably once a month.

Normally their lot is about 30% full.

Today, every square inch of that lot had a used car on it.

2) It is on the books as an asset and probably collateral, things can get messy when you choose to depreciate something(s) that is/are being used as a security deposit.
Do you think the market value of the inventory is lower than the book value? Also, I’m no accountant, but I don’t think you depreciate inventory. I think you recognize the loss through a write-down. Seems like recognizing a loss is good for tax purposes.

No idea how financial covenants are written in security agreements for inventory collateral. It seems to me that refusing to recognize a loss on the collateral would be a breach of a financial covenant since your statements would no longer accurately and fairly represent the assets of the business.
