This bit is kind of depressing:

I've never considered 30 to be any sort of significant conjuncture in the aging process. And now I see that in less than a year, I suddenly wouldn't be expected to run quite as fast or do quite as many pushups and situps.

People do their dog killer stand up routine and laugh but a trooper at 25 years will be making more than a lot of you

It had nothing to do with my app sitting there or not sitting there for 3 years.

I applied and took the test years ago..Back when there was a hiring freeze..I got a call about a year ago, but like you said..By the time the LSP calls, better offers have come

Most people work in a place that is predictable and well cushioned from violence. Imagine if you had a job that is violent and dynamic and your primary goal is to go home without being shot while protecting the public.

How often is it violent and I doubt they are all thinking I just need to make it home alive today. Truth is it's a tedious and boring most of the time. The policeman has been replaced by the toll taker, quota keeper, ticket writer, revenue producer.
