Probably the most realistic answer to the OP. Look at China for example. They have morphed into a very different style of government than what was imposed during the Mao era. The desire for personal property is a component of happiness that the traditional Communist doctrine ignores.
I do not see a cultural subversion being this country's downfall. This country was founded on enterprise and the base human need for personal property. Until those base principles are fully denied to majority of Americans, people will trudge along and continue business as usual.

Finished it just 3 weeks ago. GREAT read. Full of conjecture but based on facts. I suggested it to Ferd Terguson but he ignored me. J Murdah, might I suggest you read Setting Sun....takes a far less optimistic view...Study up on your macro financial stuff. It is very short though.
on topic...Yes. but mostly from within. As our government seizes more and more control, we lose initiative. Desire to excel goes away...We are being slowly being crushed....The best thing this country has going for it is freedoms and our yearning to be 'our own persons' for lack of a better term. We are losing it

That kind of discounts the fact the country split in two for a few years about halfway through. Its been a good long run but Civil War was a major upheaval with social ramifications to this day

Absolutely true.
Look at the character of your national leaders at the highest levels. That will give you a good idea of where the USA is headed.
Never forget the story of the Rise, Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. Once the leaders were able to destroy the Republic and turn Rome into a Dictatorship, decline and fall became inevitable.

agree to disagree
As much social unrest we have, its still a small percentage of people who are unhappy.

No. It almost happened once, but Lincoln committed the second most horrendous atrocities to the constitution and civilian rights in our countries history and didn't allow it to happen.

Apologies for being unclear...I don't think we will ever be taken over by another country. I also don't think we COULD revolt against the government. I consider the US being broken when we become so far to the left we are all controlled by those dependent ON the govt. I think more and more of our governing is done based on the non-contributors.
The more autonomy we have the greater our country. I just think it is diminishing faster and faster..

Gotcha, I agree to an extent.

Yep...Zeihan wrote on that in the book. Again, one of the more enjoyable things I have read in a while. Perhaps because of his optimism. It is nice to find someone else who has read it. I feel so close.

China has a demographic, legitimacy and territory problem. They are as likely to have a revolution as to become a true military superpower, although, they are arguably already an economic one. India has a population and cultural problem. Russia has a very old political problem. "Europe" can't hold it together long enough to matter and none of their constituent states have the resources to become a superpower alone.
We're looking pretty good for the near future.

I won't be broken. As I am a middle classes and have set myself up for later on. The country will be ok as long as my grandson is alive so I am good with things. But for all the people that say it's already broke, I agree. After 9/11 there is no telling what group can screw with us....
