I had this debate with a female coworker who teaches at the same high school as I do. She is against cameras in the classrooms and I am for it.

What says the OT? If your local school board had a vote, would you vote for it?

Why or why not?

i have no idea why they aren't in use, especially in a state like Louisiana that has so many problems

i've thought about teaching and i would be MUCH happier knowing my class was on video

texas has a law now where all self contained SpEd classrooms HAVE to have a camera if a parent requests it.

Like security type cameras, not live-streaming over the internet.

One of our teachers tried this one time to show our parents how bad we were in junior high. One girl snuck around and flashed the camera her breast without showing her face. He said the next day that the film was to vulgar to show anyone.

Why cameras? That would just expose how horrible the educational system in LA, is.

I remember the big uproar when I was in elementary school 25 years ago about adding a camera to the busses. They installed these boxes in all of them, but apparently only outfitted a camera inside on the few busses that had incidents. Basically a dummy camera. It all came to light when there was a fight that broke out and a parent demanded to see the video. Only there was no video. So I would expect that if a school district voted for it, then they should go all out just to CYA and not end up in a similar situation.

I know that my child's school has pretty much all common areas covered with cameras now. Adding them to the classroom with all the tech in the school now wouldn't be a big deal. I personally would be for it because our 2nd grade teacher has been horrible this year. My daughter is hating school and ready for summer, when she usually hates summer and is ready to see her friends. It might take some of the two-sided story we've been getting out of the equation if the teacher knew someone was watching or was able to watch.

well i can see some downsides

1. helicopter parents, esp stay at home moms with nothing else to do, would scrutinize the ever living frick out of the videos. those assholes put so much goddamn pressure on teachers it's insane. relentless bullshite

2. you are videotaping minors

3. there may be crimes on the videos, so you'd have to establish a chain of custody (both policies and the actual procedures)

it would expose the root cause of our educational system's failure and i expect many people to NOT want that to occur

The cameras would prove to be "racist" I'm afraid.

This would be my biggest grip as a teacher. Other than that I wouldn't really mind.

It would definitely cut down on my "review" days

It would force the students and teachers to be on the best behaviors at all time. This is also the same reason I am pro go cams on all officers.

Trust me, there are plenty of shitty kids of all races in the class... except Asians. Now don't get me wrong they do plenty of shite, they just aren't a class disturbance...

Hell no to the latter. Closed circuit security cameras.

How lazy are you exactly? You already get every weekend, holiday and 3 months of summer yet you need to rob the students because you don't want to prepare more?
