Driving on I-10 tonight, going about 80 in the left lane, about to pass a car in the right lane.
Dude in a Ford focus (beta) comes up behind me and flashes his lights. I'm about to pass the car on the right, so I speed up a bit and get over once I pass the car.
Beta comes up beside me, rolls down his passenger window, and chunks a drink out of the window at me. He then speeds up a lot, starts swerving, driving erratically.
I was so mad I immediately called 911 without even thinking. I understand being pissed at people driving in the left lane, but I WAS GOING 80. How fast did he expect me to go?
Now I'm telling the story at a friend's party and everyone is saying I messed up by calling 911 for a non-emergency and that if anyone is in trouble, it is likely me. What about the other guy? What happens to him? I gave his license plate and car info and my name to the 911 dispatcher.
What does the OT have to say?

And yeah, lesson learned. 911 = emergency.
But in my defense, it could've ended up a true emergency if he continued driving that way.

Should have sped up and thrown something back at his car.

I would've slowed down and pinned him in.

Dude was driving recklessly on the interstate. I don't see how it's any different than seeing a guy drinking and driving .

Oh, and price check. Vagisil. Register 3.

If you're doing 100 mph in the left lane and someone has to slow down behind you, you're the problem.

You should have taken your .45 out of the glove compartment and emptied the magazine into his rear window, IMHO.

But really, if I thought he was possibly going to hurt someone, I would have called the non-emergency number.

Depending where you are, there may be no non-emergency number. Jefferson parish all calls whether and emergency or not go to 911. Call the office for a non emergency, they say call 911. I think nopd is the same way. It used to be 821-2222, but last time I called they told me to call 911.

So, those people are dumb.

Plus, that was an emergency.

I'd bet it's okay to call for non-emergency stuff where the other driver is putting people in danger.

I've never done it, but I would bet nothing happens.

Hell, the Causeway Police can barely catch a drunk numbnuts that causes a wreck. I expect they'd remain motionless for a random speeder.

It's fine calling 911 just understand that even if you give all that info, officer still has to observe violation(s) in order to charge the person with traffic violation or worse Reckless Op, unless you want to provide your info to "press charges" on the driver. If you do that then the other driver can say you did x-y-z and you getvcharged as well because it was not observed by police and its a he-said, she-type thing.

In short, that was a vagina thing to do

We get like 5 reckless driver calls per shift where I work, it's very common for people to call 911 for that. Especially if the person is driving erratically, they could be drunk or high. I think you did good.

Wrong, if I'm using the left lane to pass then whoever comes up behind me can wait until I can pass and get back over.
