It's paint. I shouldn't have to read essays to understand if it offends people. Life is short enough as it is. Maybe we should give people the benefit of the doubt more often.
Black face is not truly racist in and of itself, but it has been claimed as racist by unknown parties that i could care less to appease when it comes to such trivial matters. Its not life or death, and no one is injures by the act.
I won't be inconvenienced by things that effect literally nothing in today's world.
You want to lean towards a pessimistic worldview where everyone is racist, that's your choice, but you're not forcing me to look at other people in a negative light for no reason.
What the kid was doing is obvious, it was harmless, and it was in good fun. Get over yourself. The world is awful and full of far worse things than black paint.
This kid was born in 1999/2000, give it a rest. Focus on the positive.

I just can't understand this current mindset. I never in a million years would have guessed from my childhood yo now everybody would turn into a bunch of melodramatic babies fighting over victim status.

Like I said, ignorance is understandable, but once you're educated on why it is offensive, you should consider that if/when you choose to challenge it. The kid doesn't deserve a bunch of hate or criticism, and people blowing it out of proportion are imbeciles.

Ignorance is bliss. I'd rather we all just see the past as the past and focus on the positive of the future. I don't like how people underestimate the psychological weight they put on younger blacks when they constantly scream racism. They need to progress without the mind crutch of racism, and i thinm wed all be surprised at the results.

1 - He is an idiot if he didn't realize blackface is taboo, and he will get criticized as racist no matter how he meant it.
2 - More importantly, what is up with the dramatic "promposals"? Can't a guy just ask a girl to prom like a normal human being? Poor guy was expected to come up with something over the top and he did it.

I get that the historical nature of whites performing denigrating skits in black face makes the idea taboo.
I also think that 99% of white families try hard to avoid treating blacks any different than whites, and so, avoid even discussing the taboo subjects.
In today's America, until your white child hears "the n word" out in the world, most would never know it existed except by listening to rap music. Black face is probably never even encountered by the vast majority of today's white kids until an incident like this occurs innocently.
