Same Mine was 160 I am going to my Cardiologist. My Doctor from Ochsner said once you start you can't get off of it.

Also to all who gave their advice, I do appreciate it. Thank you guys. I will definitely push to get a further look at what is going on. I have invested alot of time/energy in staying healthy and just want to make sure I'm not doing anything to compromise that. I have always been health-minded, I spent 22 years in the service and not just because I had to workout to maintain my fitness but because I loved working out. I don't do much heavy lifting these days but I do still incorporate some weight training and light cardio. With all that said I used to eat like a horse when working out and ate a ton of carbs (many refined carbs along the way) during my weight training days. At my strongest I benched 355 at 178 with about 12% BF and that was about 2009. Maintained weight training decently heavy until I ruptured my left pectoral on a deployment in 2017. Hand weights and pushups are my anaerobic workouts now.

Well, I've told my story here a hundred times, but maybe someone will heed something from it. At 43, "perfect health", thin, no high bp, no family history, no smoke, no drink etc. Then one morning I woke up with "the flu". Went to work, started feeling worse. They found me on the ER parking lot. Coded, and straightlined across the board for 4 minutes. They shocked me twice, the second worked. Ended up with 5 bypasses. The only thing besides work stress was my Chol was around 215 and my LDL was around 110. Years of trying every diet didn't change those numbers. Finally RePatha came along and my chol is 140ish, and LDL is in the 40s. Take that with a statin. i eat what I want now, but am sensible because I don't want to gain weight.

Am I short? Yes LOL, did not realize how short I was until I joined the military in 1996 (formed up by height) but obese not a chance. I still hold onto a good bit of lean mass from my weight training days and have always been thicker framed. But thanks for your middle school observation as I literally LOL'd when I read you comment.

I went through the same thing with a suspicious calcium score. I was referred to a cardiologist who then conducted an echo gram and then a catherization. The catherization showed I had 90% blockage in an artery. So I have a stent now.
I didn’t have any symptoms either….i paid for the calcium CT out of curiosity. That’s why they call heart disease the silent killer….you generally don’t have symptoms.

I understand a CAC score is not a definite for actual arterial blockage.
It's not but it's an indicator of risk. Due to family history, I have these done every five years (I'm about to be 44) and just had one done in November. My score was a 0. I was told by my cardiologist that if it was even a 1 we needed to discuss making some changes to nip things in the bud. Don't discount what they tell you.

So what do they attribute as the cause of your heart attack?
Posted on 1/15/24 at 4:52 pm to S1C EM
“red rice yeast”
RRY contains monacolin K ,same as the drug lovastatin.OTC RRY doses aren’t standardized, some bottles may have very little of the active ingredient, some have excessive amounts. People have wacked out their livers with RRY.
Lovastatin is fairly cheap,I would much rather take that.

Props OP on getting the test and taking your heart health seriously. It at least gives you and your cardiologist an idea of your situation to further investigate or be on the lookout for certain symptoms. Not sure how long these tests have been around, but glad they are.

It's not just the score but the trend. That score could be the result of years ago and could be stable now or even decreasing or you could be steadily building deposits. You will need to be retested at an interval you and your doc agree on like 6 months/1 yr.
Here is a risk calculator that you can put your info in and see what difference a statin would make. It is the same one my cardiologist used.
Whatever course you take kudos for being informed. Good luck.

I’d treat my LDL to 55mg/dL or lower if that were me.
I’m 3m past finding out I’ve got an LDL of 195 (which explains my uncle’s CABG at age 38 and both grandfathers dying before turning 60).
I take rosuvastatin 40mg every night. I feel no different since starting it.
Repeating LDL in about another week to see where I’m going from here.
CT calcium is a consideration. If my LDL drops drastically, I’ll leave it alone for a bit. If I’m still moderately high, I’ll be doing one. Also have the opportunity to be part of a lipoprotein (a) trial so may volunteer to be followed for that.

What is this? I started on high-dose fish oil at 31 when my triglycerides came back in the 300s. Brought them down to under 150 pretty fast. A few years later, I switched to Vascepa and added ubiquinol. Can't say for sure they are responsible for my good lipid levels, but I'm not altering my routine at this point.

My LDL (110). And the only exercise I did was weight lifting, which does essentially zero for heart health.

Crestor. A high-intensity, hydrophilic statin. Went generic sometime around ‘17. Always saw fewer side effects and fantastic results in patients on it, so when it was time to become a patient myself, I chose it.
Out of the secondary options, I’d choose PCSK9 inhibitor next and would probably pay cash for it if I had any indication to warrant further treatment (I’m drawing my own line somewhere around an LDL of 130 while already on max dose crestor but am debating whether I’ll be reassured by a negative calcium score if that doesn’t happen).

That’s bullshite, unless you’re not challenging yourself.

That's baffling. 110 isn't even that much out of range.
