Does anyone travel by bus for work anymore? Do they vacation by taking the bus? I pass the Greyhound station on my way to work most days and it makes me wonder just how reliant folks are on this mode of transportation.

I'm not talking about CATS intra-city. I'm talking about the cross-country busses. The kind where you find guys wanting to give you a foot massage like on Road Trip, or the one Red used to break a condition of his parole to go visit Andy Dufrene in The Shawshank Redemption.

Is this still used by a lot of people? Do you use it? Someone you know*?

*-Carl the Cat routinely utilizes Greyhound to travel to Omaha for the CWS. He's excluded from this discussion.

Every time I pass by a megabus it's filled - even when I drove cross country I'd see them all over the Northeast/turnpikes filled up.

Poor ppl do. The Greyhound station in Vburg is always packed around any holiday.

Bus travel is also really common for group vacations or trips. How else are going to efficiently move 30-50 ppl in one vehicle?

I know that charter busses are used a ton for football road trips for groups of alumni. But I'm talking about, "Hey it's summer, I'm gonna come up and visit you Aunt Ethel. I'll bring the kids and they can stay out in Albequerque once I leave for that weekend," type of transportation needs.

I have family that use the Megabus in Texas all the time. They have good things to say about it.

It's very common in the northeast in big cities, especially if you don't have the need for a car.

For me, I used it this past february in denver. Took a bus from downtown denver to gunnison, saved me from renting a car and driving in snow and ice all for $30.

I work not far from the Greyhound station. They have some rough looking characters utilizing that mode of travel.

Mega Bus from DC to NYC is pretty cheap from what I've heard. Also, I know a group of 5 college students that used the Mega Bus from New Orleans to San Antonio for a conference, it was $10.
