It's the government so in sure they are giving much smaller checks to those with middle class incomes. I made $120k last year so I'm assuming I won't be getting as much help even though I've been decimated.

The two people I know one had to leave for Texas due to old age one is still living in a shelter have not received a penny from FEMA yet. They were denied DSNAP despite just above poverty line income. Have not heard from any FEMA adjuster to even come look at their house.
Hell her house was even pointed at by Hannity on his show to highlight the devastation.

I'm not sure what the time line has been for people, but I can't imagine income plays any role in that and it will not play a role in their housing assistance funding.

I have no idea what method FEMA uses to determine how much they give out. We got almost the max amount, while my neighbor got 20K or so. I gutted everything 4 feet and under and he did not, so I thjnk maybe that's why I was awarded more.

1,800 square foot house. Water did not get above the baseboards in any room of our house and one room even stayed dry somehow. We only gutted 1' as we didn't see any reason to go higher, as we got to it quick and it seems the water was not in the house long at all. By the time the FEMA inspector came we had already sheet rocked and laid new flooring and were installing trim.
They gave us 13K, which was just about enough to cover the repairs.
We were pleasantly surprised. After seeing people's experiences online and talking to people I am of the belief that the individual who inspects plays a big role in what you get. She was very accommodating and even asked "loaded questions", which helped a ton during the inspection phase. She pointed out things that "may need to be done, etc".
Household income is around 185K, but as others have said I don't believe that matters. Not like they ask for any proof of income or anything.
Inspection was done Thursday, award status on Friday and money in my account today. Seamless process and I am very impressed.

I'm glad you got such a speedy response. I don't know why my parents keep getting dicked around by FEMA (maybe it was their inspector...I have no idea cause I wasn't there). It's encouraging to read that not everyone is having the same experience. Makes me hopeful they will quickly resolve any issues/miscommunication.

Our inspector came Friday, the amount got approved today. 1400 SF house, just two of us. Foot of water in the house, gutted to 4 feet.
We'll be getting $14k which is more than what I was expecting.

Anytime the Government is involved there will likey be more negative responses, so figured I'd share our positive experience.
Nurse - I would think/hope they would be able to resolve that insurance issue quickly and get your parents the help they need.

Nurse if I had to guess they are prioritizing zip codes. Some areas were hit harder than others.

To sum it up...inspection today...FEMA denied my family cause they are claiming they have flood insurance(and they certainly do not). So now my poor dad has to jump through more hoops to prove he didn't have flood insurance. My dad is like 3 steps away from a nervous breakdown every single day right now....we really just needed SOMETHING to go smoothly.

Well either he does or he doesn't. No grey area here. So if he doesn't then he shouldn't be too worried and should be able to simply provide proof. Sounds like an entry error on someones part. Calm down Chive on.

Thank goodness we did this the moment we knew it was flooded. They should email me that letter today or tomorrow and I will upload it to my dad's FEMA acct online.
For several reasons...we really want to be able to relocate them to AZ to be near me in November at the earliest. We need the FEMA stuff resolved asap so we can figure everything else out.
My dad will have to junk that trailer because it's in a trailer park and he still is paying lot rent on it. I have no idea how much that will even cost. But we can't even do that until all the FEMA stuff is resolved(in case they have to come reinspect, etc).

i started my application not knowing if i would have water in my house, but wanted to make sure i was in the system. Since i didn't get water, how do i go about canceling my app? Don't want to take money away from people who need it, but it won't let me log back in

You can call FEMA and just tell them over the phone.
You usually do not have to be on hold with them either, maybe like 5 minutes and you will be speaking to a rep.

Yeah you are right, I'm sorry guys. Don't mean to hog this thread over this. Being out of state makes this that much more frustrating/stressful for me cause I feel that much more helpless to assist them with all this. I appreciate you guys putting up with me venting about all this on the board. I realize sooooo many more have more pressing issues with this disaster.
