My wife (no pics) and I will be spending a week in BR at Christmas with my mother-in-law. Interested in hearing of some recommendations of places to visit. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Have never been - planning to visit:
Old State Capitol tour
LSU Rural Life Museum
Pastime Restaurant/Lounge
Capitol Park Museum

Have been already (many years ago) - may return to see again:
USS Kidd
Louisiana Art and Science Museum
Old Arsenal Museum
Magnolia Mound Plantation
Oak Alley Plantation

Have been already - no need to see again:
Louisiana State Capitol
Baton Rouge Zoo

Mike the Tiger and a simple stroll through LSU.

I'd also suggest stopping at the LSU Dairy Store for a refreshing milkshake with your Mother-in-law if it wasnt closed for good.

It's reopening in a new location.

I’ve always enjoyed the drive up to St Francisville.

Port Hudson battlefield park
Port Hudson national cemetery
Lots of older plantations.

The Rosedown is my personal favorite unchanged over the years and still in original form and decor. Pretty neat tour.

I would highly recommend a stroll down Plank Road on a Friday night.

A hidden gem in Baton Rouge

Also, check out LSU Hilltop Arboretum if the weather is nice.

Good rec. St Francisville is a good visit and Port Hudson should be nice in the winter for an outdoor walk

The Francis outdoor deck is nice if not too hot. Just go for the atmosphere and drinks.

We had a great breakfast at Louie’s this morning.

I hadn’t been in several years. Rumors of its demise are unfounded.

I would go to Houmas House Plantation for a tour, have come cocktails in the Turtle Bar, and dinner at the Carriage House or Latil's Landing on-site. Beautiful gardens. You could stay on-site for a night if you wanted.

If you’re going to the Old State Capitol and the Kidd, go down North Street and see the Old Governor’s Mansion too.
