The Metro Council voted Tuesday evening to approve the settlement in the federal class-action lawsuit. The settlement, about $100,000 in total, will be borne by four agencies paying no more than $25,000 each: the city government, Louisiana State Police, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office and the District Attorney's Office.
Parish Attorney Lea Anne Batson said the city plans to pay $230 to each of the 92 plaintiffs in the lawsuit. The rest of the money under the $25,000 cap for the city-parish will go toward bonding fees, attorney's fees and other costs, Batson said.

That will cost more than $230.

Back to the point, so these people protest, then sue, then the board made up of people sympathetic to their cause (their cause of scamming the govt out of tax money) agrees to settle and pay them.

Nice little racket they've got going on there.

This is horrible. These folks did not have a claim. This recommendation appeased two groups ,one internal and one external. It does nothing more than encourage what will occur when the Feds release their report to not prosecute. Poor representation is why our parish pays to settle every lawsuit.

What a bunch of bullshite. Just another case of cities allowing these animals to cause nothing but havoc for other citizens with no repercussions at all. Hell its a win win for the thugs... get a check from Soros and then get a check from the city. Pure frickin bullshite is all it is.

The $230 part made me laugh.

Shameful the people cash in on the death of one of their neighbors.

Why exactly are we paying them money again?

So they committed crimes, got arrested, charges were dropped, and then they sue and win over wrongfully being arrested for committing crimes they were on tape committing?

And people wonder why the state doesn't have money

Interesting they waited to announce this after Election Day. Also interesting how the local news tip-toes around this decision. Our community law enforcement couldn't have handled dealing with these criminals any better, now they will all pony up out of their limited budgets to pay these urban terrorists for inconveniencing them. Disgusting.

So they got a free room, free meal, charges and fines waived, and they got paid? Not a bad trip for some.

No. They are paying because they don't want this to go to trial.

Let it go to trial since most came from out of state they wouldn't show up. They should have never dropped the charges even if people do think it is minor.

You should read. It says only 10% were from out of town

The comments section on the WAFB Facebook post about this is so predictable.

White people commenting on how much of a waste of money this is and how it's setting a bad precedent, rewarding people for committing crimes.

Black person immediately responds calling them racist.

It's getting tiresome, honestly.

Should have let the families of the cops they supported the murder of go at them.

I hope they all get robbed.
