Walt Handlesman

I really don't understand it. It was like he was some dude they hired away from some other newspaper, and they think he's SO hilarious, they're willing to just center the entire newspaper around him.

It's painfully ridiculous. The Advocate is a shell of what it was. And it wasn't even THAT good to begin with.

As of a few years ago it was probably the best small market paper on the planet. Sorry to see it drop, but print is going away so it doesn't matter.

They had a good run.

This is news. Dude's the most well known rapper in BR right now. If this were happening to the most well known rapper in NY (Jay-Z?), Chicago (Kanye?) or Miami (Rick Ross/Pitbull) it would be news in those cities.

As a matter of fact, I live in Chicago and there's a rapper here named Chief Keefe who doesn't have the national notoriety as the guys above and his legal troubles all always front page news here.

That said, I couldn't care less about Boosie's legal problems so I don't read the stories. Why don't you try that?

I used to read The Advocate online but got tired of this being shoved down my throat.

Walt Handelsman is a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist and animator whose work appears in The Advocate four days a week.

Just checked, and it's the first story on the left news bar. Nobody gives a frick about political cartoons.

The advocate is terrible since the NO crowd has taken over. It wasn't enough that they ran their paper in the ground they had to come up here and run this one in the ground too.

First, you can copy and paste these front page headlines every 2-3 days and change some names out and it would basically work for Baton Rouge now. Yes Ben, the wanna be governor from New Orleans will finish what once was a good newspaper off.

I have read the Advocate religiously since 1993 when I moved to BR. No matter where my job has taken me in that time I have found a way to get my hands on it. That is over with and it's a shame.

Yep...I've been a constant subscriber for probably 40 yrs but the paper is just a shell of what it once was. The obvious trend to the left has chased a lot of former readers away and I'm about to follow!

This X 100000000. For some reason, I can see John Georges saying "that Walt Handlesman is hilarious. Whatever any of you editors do around here, make sure we showcase these wonderful cartoons."

the advocate has gone to absolute CRAP and is catering to a very specific demographic that im not part of. as evidence, go look at todays headline. it aint news!

Out of curiosity, for all those who hate The Advocate & either have quit subscribing or are threatening to, which media outlets do you now turn to for local news?

It makes sense to have a shitty newspaper for such a shitty place.

I get local news from the WBRZ website or by actually tuning in to the evening news.

WAFB is notorious for just making shite up so I don't even bother.

I don't think the paper or the TV news does a lot of in-depth reporting. Where is John Camp when you need him?
