The company “needs to take a number of measures in response to the harsh trading environment,” Chief Executive Officer Bob Dudley said in a memo to staff Monday. “One of the measures we are taking is a general freeze to base pay for 2015, with only a few exceptions.”

My company is large and publicly traded and we had a temporary raise and promotion freeze last year before earnings reports came out. They were apparently worried about them, but they were great and the freeze was immediately lifted.

Sorry, I have never been a part of a pay freeze before. It was an honest question. I guess not getting paid for a month or two or some type of delayed payment would be better than getting laid off. You guys are some kind of hostile though.

My bad man. That did come off kind of snarky.

If it were only a month or so, it would be a furlough and you wouldn't be working.

If you work for BP, sorry you got this bad news. We all know someone in O&G and even though we love low prices, some people are obviously taking it in the wallet.

Did you really think people would just continue working while not getting a paycheck?

Freezing raises isn't exactly a new thing.

My company instituted a 5% pay cut during the recession.

They might hope that some people leave because of it too.

You guys are so cynical, they are probably referring to a situation where someone leaves the company and can be replaced from within, essentially promoting someone to do the work of someone else who left.
