Well, that did not take long for someone to bring race into this thread.

Both kids were probably the same race. If it was a white kid who shot a black kid it would be included in the headline.

Pretty disgusting how people are delighted at the fact an 11 year old found himself in a position to shoot and kill someone. I'm sure that won't affect him for the rest of his life. But who cares, killing is cool!

Bizarre thread. Sounds like an even more bizarre situation, with more than likely plenty of blame to spread around.

That 11 yr old should've just shot him in the leg or used a taser.

As long as the "dindus", as is the new code word, gets shot, lots of these folks are pretty much ok with the "minor details" like an 11 year old having to shoot someone in the head.

...says the guy who is ok with an 11 year old being responsible for a 4 year old with an accessible gun in the house that has a history of break-in attempts.

A 16 year old can rape you and kill you. Age has no bearing in this matter.

Never said any of the sort, pretty much said the exact opposite.

Based on the account, glad the kid was able to protect himself and the 4 year old. He could have had all the gun safety training in the world, and I'm not sure I'd leave a handgun in a spot where an 11 year old can get to it while alone with a 4 year old in the house though, but that's just me.

You got me!!!

The guy who was shot in the head was found in the foyer. So unless the 11 year old dragged him inside (presumably hiding the evidence of an outside shooting as well), the woman's story is null
Or you know, the 11 year old could have invited the 16 year old in. Something about this doesnt sound like an innocent little 11 year old protecting his baby sister

Exactly. 11 year olds need body cameras.

Had the 16 year old been in school getting the education* needed to provide for himself as an adult without outside assistance, this would not have happened to him.

So an 11 and 4 year old were left by themselves? A little young for no parent supervision

She didn't leave them alone, she gave them a pistol.

Yeah definitely not delighted about it for same the reasons you give.

But I found it very relevant in regard to the incompetence argument that seems to always get thrown out there by gun nazis.

Im just playing devils advocate here, but what if it turns out the 11 year old killed the 16 year old out of vengeance? That sure would look bad for the gun crowd.

Once again, just playing advocate

Few things I question.

What kind of handgun?

I don't know many 11 year olds that could load a semi auto pistol. My wife is 25 and has a hard time pulling the slide back on pistols to chamber a round.

If the gun was already loaded this means the moms left a loaded handgun somewhere her kids could reach easily.

Just reading between the lines.there's either some bad parenting going on or the kid had some really awesome firearm training including the where abouts of loaded gun

How about the possibility that it was great parenting?

That the kid was taught how to properly treat a loaded weapon and it was kept away from the 4 year old?

Weapons need to loaded and ready for use if they are deployed in a home as a defense measure. Proper training renders them 100% as safe as unloaded weapons.

ETA: Age has very little to do with "proper training". Certainly at 11.
