quote:Yep. Great that an 11 year old was able to defend himself and his sibling, but otherwise, this is just an awful story with no good coming out of it.
Sounded good till you see that the person dead is only 16. I know, shouldn't have been doing the crime..but still, in the end one young guy is dead and one had to be 11, and put a bullet in another's head. At least the only person dead was the person who felt it was ok to go with a home invasion.

11 years old is a 6th grader. I think you underestimate their capabilities and judgement.
The link says the 16 year had a history of trouble and was a ward of the state. Mom bought the gun recently because of burglaries.
Kid did a good job.

quote:Sure, if the story is correct as is, the kid did what he had to do to protect himself. Let's hope that is what happened.

The obvious question still is where was the mother? 11 is about the age where a lot of parents would leave their kids alone here and there...but not with another 4 year old in the house.

It was the middle of the afternoon. Mom may have just gone up to the store, but I'd like to know that too.

Since we do not know all the facts yet the only true statement is that the 16 year will not be invading anyones home

quote:Yea, true. I have two 4 year olds, and a 9 year old niece. I can see her being 11 and leaving a 4 year old with her for a quick trip to the store, now that I think about it.

Based on the account, glad the kid was able to protect himself and the 4 year old. He could have had all the gun safety training in the world, and I'm not sure I'd leave a handgun in a spot where an 11 year old can get to it while alone with a 4 year old in the house though, but that's just me.

He is right where he needs to be.

I didn't grow up in a gun household, so 11 seems a little young to know how to handle a hand gun, but what do I know? Well, now that I think about it, we were firing .22 pistols at 4-H camp when I was that age or maybe a year older. Either way, I hop the kid isn't fricked up too bad from it.

IMO if you downvote a thread, especially one like this you should be man enough to own up to it and say why.
Good for this kid. Very brave.

All I am saying is I'm sure she said the little din do nuthin was a good boy and never did anything like this.
Except he tried 3 times to break in and got what he deserved honestly.

Now all that Nazi Zombie killing comes in handy for someone.

poor kid is probably going to be fricked up for the rest of his life

If I was 11 and my 4 year old sister was with me alone in the house and someone is trying to break in, I would blast them. I wouldnt probably go for a fatal shot but in the heat of the moment you aim and fire.
Kid is a boss. Sad he had to experience that though.

Are we at a point now we don't even ask "Where was the father?"

quote:Given the story, it insinuates he doesn't live in the house. So while I'm sure it's an important portion of the kid's life, but as for the specifics of the story, it's probably not relevant since they mentioned the mother and not the father.
