Wrong.

This study shows quite the opposite is true actually. But it does prove the OP's point. Men have a hard time being in a platonic relationship with women. But for women it's actually easy. I would bet a lot of money jimbeam's 2 roommates have no desire to secks him not find him attractive. Nothing against jimbeam but it's how the woman's brain works. Bitches be crazy.

It makes me sad when i see comments like the ones in here. I think about all the guy friends I had growing up and it makes me feel like it was all a lie. They didn't like going 4wheeler riding, canoe trips, music festivals, raves, parties, drinking, mudriding, or nothing with me?!

so the real issue here is that you have a very limited set of interests.

How so? Please enlighten me on your typical get togethers with friends.

Yeh because all of those activities you mentioned were done with just you and another guy...no other friends involved

So you are saying it is common for a man and woman to hang out alone with no sexual attraction involved?
yes

Do you agree that in general men and women hang out with their own sex? If so why would that be?
Yes. Because people hang out with other people who are similar to them. But that doesn't mean that men cannot normally hangout with women

I used to have nothing but guy friends. Then I moved to BR and became friends with a lesbo and now I'm friends with guys and girls, and there are good and bad points for each side of the argument. Honestly I'd prefer to hang out with the boys more often than women. However, the women I'm friends with seem to be way better at planning their days out for big events, like Mardi Gras, and I like structure so I tend do bigger events with them. Also, when you're frustrated, happy, sad, mad,etc.. women are obviously tend to be more nurturing and are generally better at making you feel better than the bros, who typically just want to drink a beer and tell you to get over it.

Then there's also the fact that when you're with a couple of girls, whether they're lesbians or not, people tend to think you're gay.

I have tons of women friends...just not many that I do things alone with like I do with my guy friends. I believe most of my female friends do the same...do things alone with female friends but in groups with male friends.

It was. At some point they all wanted to get in your panties. And you thought about it too. Maybe just for a fleeting second and then dismissed it, but you thought about it.

I think that's a bit exaggerated and disingenuous. While certainly some of them did, it's not fair to say that all of her guy friends were only friends because they wanted to bang.

I had several guy friends i would ditch class with and go fishing or 4wheeler riding or ride around on backroads drinking natty light. Two of them i stayed friends with even after college. One of them died two months ago from heart failure. 36 years old.

yeah, they didn't really give an operational definition of romance

quote:

Men were much more attracted to their female friends than vice versa. Men were also more likely than women to think that their opposite-sex friends were attracted to them

not shocking. men want to frick frick frick frick

there is nothing wrong or taboo about wanting to frick a friend, esp if you're a male. that's just how we're wired

this whole conversation is skewed by stupid, artificial conventions of modern society (that are strongly reinforced through religious dogma and media). just look at the skewed way that article describes things. it uses "romance" to denote something more than sex, when everything else written about the study makes it seem like it's just about sex

we have a very dogmatic and puritanical view on sex and that should be the discussion: "why do we view sex with people we know as having to be linked to a relationship?" guys have no problem fricking randoms and interacting with them at a later time...as long as it's not too common, but if we have to see that person? oh no sir!

Yea, there were some who were obviously interested in me, but those were weeded out quickly.

Some notable exceptions are my mother, sister, family and a few girls I grew up with.

I didn't say they did, but they do think about sex. And they view every male as a potential mate. They just do it differently than we do. They judge potential mates on whether or not he can provide security for them. We judge our mates by whether or not they are worthy to spread our seed to.
