But as far as a print reporter's account of the aftermath of Katrina, Jed Horne's "Breach of Faith" was about as comprehensive as it gets.

Of all the books mentioned in this thread Breach of Faith is the best.

It's kind of a depressing topic really. Try reading the sports books about how teams overcame the adversary of the storm to be successful. See: LINK and LINK. I think there is also a Tulane football book out as well. If you absolutely must read about the government's actions during and after the storm, try Sally Forman's book: LINK. It's pretty good.

Chris Rose put one out, I think it was called "One Dead in the Attic". It was ok, but nothing special.

It wasn't really a book, though; it was collection of his Picayune pieces following the storm. I read it in college and really enjoyed it.

"Generals die in bed" by william yale harrison was great to read.

So was "the things they carried" by Tim O'Brien.

I had a cousin who was there - he works for Wildlife and Fisheries. Most of what he saw he won't even talk about but he did say that he saw one guy smoke another one over the right to steal an Escalade.

It happened and a wonderful man suffered greatly because of it.
