booking a catamaran through BVI
Posted on 3/13/16 at 11:58 am

There are 8 of us looking to book a private catamaran through BVI this summer. I see on certain websites that prices have a min to max rate, usually $10k-15k +/-, which is not bad.
For those of you who have done this what does the min price get you and the max get you. What kind of stops do you make? I hear the plus side of doing a catamaran is that you can stop at secluded islands and don't have to deal with the cruise liner rift raft.

My wife and I really enjoy the smaller out of the way less touristy places you visit sailing on your own like that. We've had some of the best times on the two small deserted islands, I think they are named Sandy Cay and Sandy Spit.
The only place I would probably avoid, unless you're diving, would be Anegada, kind of a wasted day just for Lobster.
Make sure you hit the hidden gems like The Bubbling Pool on Jost and the Fort on St. John.
Oh and don't forget Ivan's.

Min to Max? If you know the time of year you can get a specific price.
I have friends down there and can find out what companies to contact and which ones to avoid.

It's riff raff.
Once you get away from St. Thomas and Tortola there are no cruise ship people. Maybe a few are adventurous enough to hop on the ferry from St. Thomas to St. John but that's about it. There really aren't any cruise ships coming to the BVI in the summer time. However, there is the chance of a hurricane.

I remember growing up myfamily in Chicago inherited the yacht formerly owned by Clark Gable. We decide to sail it from the island of Ste. Pomme de Terre to Miami. Luckily we were able

Been many times with The Moorings outta Tortola
Best rental group down there
10 gs is way high, last time we had a 42 and was around $7000 for a week.
Provision it yourself can save lots. You order your shite online and they deliver it to the boat.
Make sure you hit the Willy T, the Baths and Jost Van Dyke, Foxy's

Bareboat or crewed for $7k?
Posted on 3/13/16 at 2:27 pm to roadGator
You aren't going to get a crewed boat for $7k for that many people. Maybe with a skipper. Cook would be another $1500 or so on top of the skipper.
Posted on 3/13/16 at 2:31 pm to VABuckeye
Cook is just $170 per day. I'm on their website now.
Skipper is $199 per day.
I don't really want a catamaran. I'd prefer a power boat. $6k for a week with three cabins isn't bad at all. That's less than $300 per night per couple. Cheaper than nice resorts.
I'm going to look into this for next year for sure.

Right. But...cook and skipper isn't a fully crewed trip. That costs a lot more. Cook and skipper plus boat is going to be in the $8-$10k range and up depending on the number of people. It's a great deal if you have a few couples going.

Virgin Traders motor yacht rentals is who we have used three times in the summer and loved it. We did bare boat, ordered the provisions and restocked in key places along the way. Did Anegada because half way is a sunken ship we wanted to dive. Absolutely was the finest time ever each time improving on the previous trips. Cruised about 10-12 knots, there is no reason to hurry and fuel consumption was excellent. If you don't already scuba dive, get certified before you go, dive sites with mooring balls are everywhere.

I deaux bareboat
If ya know anything about boating you can handle it.
They have a deal that the capt can go with ya for say 2 days. They teach ya the ropes then get off the boat, and its all yours.
Anchoring and snaggin a ball are the main things to learn
