I thought Linkin Park already did this years ago...

This is exactly.the kind of material you can use for a space elevator.

Also interested in Young's Modulus, yield strength, etc.

IF this is real, it could revolutionize a lot of stuff.

It's real. I've held it in my hands a couple of years ago. The struggle is that it has to be 3D printed, which makes the cost of manufacturing pretty expensive and pretty tough to scale for large applications like an airplane.

So the first one to manufacture it cost effectively will be instant OT Baller?

Um I'm calling bullshite. Are they saying there material floats in air?

So this metal will no shite float like a weak balloon?

Yeah kinda what I was thinking; how can something that contains metal be lighter than air? Unless you're talking about the air in China, then I can see it

One of the main owners of HRL labs/Malibu IQ, the actual company that invented the material, is an LSU chemE grad/oil driller in Louisiana. I've held this stuff in my hands a few years ago. I suggested to him they look into working with NFL on concussion stuff, and now they have a deal to redesigning the helmet using the microlattice.

The 787 is basically a plastic plane....and it's beautiful.
Wonder if the hall will completely shatter into millions of pieces when one eventually goes down instead of the conventional break apart into a few thousand pieces. Have they intentionally flown one into the ground yet to test?

Lighter than air? Assuming there is no air within the material lattice... but there is, so it's not actually lighter than air. In a vacuum that volume of the material would be lighter than an equal volume of air.

partially true.

The real breakthrough is the chemical lattice that form from UV light interaction. It's the fastest/cheapest manufacturing process of a material ever.

I believe Malibu IQ is the partner company in HRL Labs that is licesned to bring HRL inventions to market.

HRL was formed by Howard Hughes and hold countless government patents and contracts. But they've never really marketed their inventions. They're a think tank. Well a few years ago they decided to form a co-op to bring their inventions to market. That's the company the LSU grad is a partner of.

quote:

Malibu IQ partnered with HRL Laboratories to commercialize HRL inventions originally developed for the defense, aerospace and automotive industries. This partnership combines the intellectual property assets developed at HRL with the entrepreneurial, operational and financial expertise at Malibu IQ and a pool of committed private capital to rapidly advance these disruptive technologies into new markets.

If that's true, wouldn't the material have floating capabilities? Or am I retarded?

Have any info on the material properties? yield strength, stress/strain, etc?

Just curious.

Finally, unobtainium.

The Captain will have Mark in a car with this stuff holding it together soon enough.
