Fun fact Spirit uses a fleet for A321’s to fly.

The Spirit referred to in the article isn't the yellow airline, it's Spirit Aerospace which is a parts supplier for Boeing.

Spirit does manufacture for Airbus too.

Matt Stoller, whose main interest is in monopolies/anti-trust, has written about this in some detail.

Apparently Spirit (not the airline) and Boeing use different tracking mechanisms for repairs/changes and they don't always share exactly what was done and by whom, and therefore doesn't always trigger the right inspection of the work.

Yikes.

Glad you cleared that up. I was just trying to picture the typical Spirit Airlines passenger disembarking in Fairbanks, AK

Installed by fricking sorry arse union workers

Yall know Airbus is union as well, right? And its ten times harder to fire anybody, union or not, in Europe.

Ten years ago we found out that although the US gov't covers for Boeing, Airbus gets like 10x the subsidy that Boeing gets, from the EU.

Lots of armchair critics here have zero idea what they are talking about.

That’s good. Which one killed hundreds of people the past few years and have been a shitshow since? That’s right, Boeing, the topic of this thread.

Boeing was once a great company committed to excellence not it’s a shite company committed to building everything as cheaply as possible. The merger with MD did them in

You referring to the Boeing that delivered an aircraft with a design flaw which led to thrust reversers deploying mid flight killing 223? The Boeing who continued to obfuscate the investigation once the cause became clear?

We need to stop with this idea that Boeing was a perfect company before the merger.

Can't focus on manufacturing when you don't manufacture anything. They assemble airplanes they don't make much of anything.

Bad day for Boeing.

Nose Wheel Falls Off Delta Boeing 757 Shortly Before Takeoff in Atlanta

quote:

A Boeing 757 jet full of passengers experienced a peculiar incident as its nose wheel detached and rolled away while awaiting takeoff clearance on the runway, with nearly 200 passengers on board. Delta Air Lines Flight 982 was on the verge of taking off from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta last Saturday when, according to a preliminary report from the Federal Aviation Administration released on Monday, the wheel “came off and rolled down the hill.”

Airbus is killing them. The only reason Boeing is going to keep the business it has is because Airbus doesn't have tk capacity to supply the market. But I'm guessing that Boeing will have to come down on price just to keep what they already have.

Airbus has surpassed Boeing in the narrow body ( middle of the market) segment for sure. Wide body aircraft are a different story.

Not sure I would blame capitalism because labor unions are a huge push against capitalism. And I understand the wanting profits aspect, but that’s because we allow our politicians to be on these boards and invest in these companies. That’s not really a free market if your elected officials are running the show and making laws to benefit their own pockets and the companies they are invested in.

It’s the government picking winners and losers.

It's basically even.

Boeing has 52% of the widebody market to Airbus' 48% as of 2021. But that's according to wiki.
