I understand the tourist love giving out money to the locals for local causes and sometimes get shot for fun.

damn, broad daylight near a major intersection too. That is scary.
I saw a biker open carrying years back and thought it was odd, but now I can understand. (no way to really conceal if in biker clothes)

One of the suspects searched his pockets and took $200. One of the suspects put a handgun to the victim’s head and pulled the trigger, but the weapon did not fire.
The three suspects then fled the scene.
The suspects are described as follows:
Suspect 1: Black male in his 30s, medium build, short hair wearing a white t-shirt and dark-colored pants
Suspect 2: Black male in his 20s, slim build, short hair, wearing white t-shirt and blue jeans
Suspect 3: Black male in his 20s, slim build, wearing a white t-shirt

Seriously, they knew it would be an issue with the Lafitte Greenway, and that it would start to become a target. It does go through some questionable neighborhoods. The hope I think was that it would raise the values of all the properties near it.

What do you expect. This happened in a really rough neighborhood. The cyclist should have known better.
The scene of the robbery happened less than two miles from the PT Beauregard statue and a 10 minute walk from the Jeff Davis statue.
