Hoping rogertheshrubber sees this, but if anyone else has info, my son who loves hunting, fishing, kayaking, camping, and his Jeep is thinking of going to Alaska for college. Moving him from Louisiana to Oregon wasn't extreme enough, apparently. Could someone sum up the differences between University of Alaska Anchorage and Fairbanks? He's interested in agriculture, engineering, or some kind of life science. Maybe. Only thing he knows for sure at this point is that if he has to wear a tie to work he'll probably hang himself with it...

Alaska Fairbanks is a good hockey school. Does he like hockey?

I'm sorry. I don't think you understood the question.

I passed the bar in Alaska but the test was pretty easy because they only have like 4 laws and most of those are about when you can and cannot kill seals

That is actually something to investigate. He's pretty hardcore 'murica, but he might be interested enough in the outdoors opportunity to consider it. Thanks for the suggestion!

I have often said that one can find out ANYTHING they need to know on Tigerdroppings. I have faith, because it's never failed me yet.

(I once very poorly described a scene from Brubaker that I was thinking of and asked if anyone could tell me what movie it was from. I had an answer in under 10 min.) I rest my case.

The inevitable "trade crash" won't be far off at this rate.

Pretty solid advice actually. I wouldn't expect any Nobel prize winners to come from Alaska

Fairbanks is pretty shitty due to location. Both are about the same. Anchorage has more to do around it. Awesome place.

Considering recent history, the Nobel Prize has lost a lot of its "wow factor." Just sayin'.

I went to UAF (Fairbanks) for a year before transferring to LSU. UAF is a great science/engineering school.

Being inland doesn't seem as cool as being near the coast, but sometimes things aren't as they seem. It also depends on what you consider "stuff to do." You've been there and liked it? Vacation or lived there?
