Actually, I've only been to one game there. I have a few friends that live in Little Rock, and all totalled up, I've probably spent 6 months up there, a week or two at a time. You are either a sucky person, or hung out with sucky people

If you enjoy NOLA, you need to spend a bit more time than during Mardi Gras. My wife and I left last spring for my residency. She has a countdown for when we go back, but I wouldn't mind looking into some of the other towns mentioned. Family is the only thing keeping me close.

I have nothing but great things to say about NOLA in terms of my own experiences, but it certainly has its downsides that a lot of these other places don't.

If you are comfortable with Nashville, I'd say stay there. I have several close family friends that uprooted and went to Nashville and have never regretted one second. I love going up there for a week or two every year.

New Orleans, LA has to be number 1, but it's tough to raise a family in the city limits and gets expensive with private schools.
Even though it's not the South, Austin, TX is probably 2.
Nashville is probably 3.
Atlanta is dog shite. It has literally zero redeeming qualities.
I've heard great things about Charleston, SC.
Charlotte is a great city with a solid banking and investment center.
Believe it or not, Lafayette, LA is awesome, pure awesome. It has a great nightlife scene, plenty of slutty college girls at UL, every major music act comes through there, great food, booming economy, and a minor league hockey team. Don't thumb your nose up and think "what kind of cow town is this?" if you get an offer from an oil company there. It's like a New Orleans with a family friendly atmosphere, no sky scrapers, subbing Cajun/Zydeco for Jazz/Brass Bands, oil field trash (making oil field cash) for hipsters, Lebanese for Vietnamese, and Cajun food for creole.

I haven't seen it mentioned, but I know someone who moved to Lexington, KY for employment and he really likes it.

Yeah..by now Mobile has been a longtime whipping boy on this board.

We know.

You've made your point.

The only city around here that would be worth it is Point Clear in my opinion.

but you'd have days like yesterday when it really sucks to live near water.

holy shite there was a lot of flooding over here yesterday.

That's where my parent's weekend place is. Right near the Hwy 49 bridge. I like spending time there. 20 minutes by car from town is a major plus. Sometimes they take the boat up to Blue Moon for the evening.

Sure, as long as having every major sports team save NHL (MLS coming), booming business and job availability, lots of livable areas, acceptable public schools, proximity to beach and mountains, etc. are all on your list of things to avoid.

I'm from Atlanta and won't stay here, but to pretend it isn't easily one of the most viable places to live in the south is absurd. For professional positions, you're not looking at New Orleans or Charleston, you're looking at Atlanta. Comparing cultural cities like that to major cities isn't really fair.
