Looking into purchasing a minivan for my wife, what are your experiences with them? What make and model would you recommend? What features are a must? Thx

DO NOT AND I REPEAT DO NOT BUY THE DODGE GRAND CARAVAN.

When we first got it, it was great but then 3 months later shite starting just failing on it. There is also a known issue with the way it handles so I am always replacing tires.

Extremely pissed at myself for buying it since the grand caravan was actually pretty highly rated by consumer reports.

At this point I'm about to stick another 3-4k into it to replace all of the brakes, shocks/struts, and do tuneups. Not worth it but honestly I don't feel like dealing with the hassle of car dealerships.

Never again will I buy an american made mini-van.

Not piling on you, but CR is not really a good resource for car reviews.

Check Autoweek and JD Power. Good luck on your next purchase.

Why is CR not a good source? It is the most reliable source period.

I bought one of these new for the Mrs. Füt in '93, she got seven years and 160,000 trouble-free miles out of it. Traded it in on a new '01 Suburban and got like $2.5k for it. Didn't care as I was starting to make some real ducats by then.

That's all I got. Why minivan? SUVs hold their value more better.

JD Power is more thorough on intial quality and later quality surveys. Autoweek features long-term tests where multiple drivers use the vehicle. Thus, you get lots of unbiased driving impressions. You also get live, real-world cost of ownership information.

I have a Dodge Grand Caravan. Haven't had any trouble with it and it's never been in the shop and I have 102k miles on it. Of course I do all the work myself. I did all the brakes once and I had a heater hose that was leaking that I replaced. Got it for $17k used with 30k miles on it. I got 250k miles out of a 1996 caravan which I traded in on the one I have now.

I've always bought american cars so I really only had one choice when I wanted to buy a minivan.

Also make sure to spend the money and order some weathertech floor mats. Best money I've spent on the van.

Loved the video and bought the van. It's been a great addition after my wife had our twins.

You also need to look at what they are worth on the after market. Mini vans never bring close to book. In the last three years working at a car dealership ONE person came to me asking for a use mini van!!! If you do get one, look for a used one and let some other dope take some of the beating on it.
