I went on a drug deal run in a turkish taxi once. That was neat.

Da frick?

Those Turkish cabs are a ride in themselves. Driving fast as hell, barely ever really using lanes, while Turkish music fills the background.

I was oddly calm about it. Drug runs? Maybe not so much

I would consider skipping out on one of either the palace, hagia Sofia, and blue mosque and heading to taksim square, which is the bustling modern part of the city. If there's one must-see, it's the grand bazaar.

You could fit all that stuff in but that would be too much for one day I think.

I had no choice but to shut the frick up. It was a ride I had made several times and I knew we were going way out the way. We stopped in some neighborhood. Cash was exchanged(US $100 bills) and driver definitely gave him a substance in a plastic bag that looked very druggish. Then we went to my hotel. Totally worth it for the experience.

Bazaar is overrated IMO. 700 shops selling 7 different things. Roman cistern was probably my favorite thing.

Most of the shops are selling the same thing, but there are some unique ones too, and also, it's fun just walking around the place.

Also Taksim isn't in the area but he could go there after dark when everything else shuts down.

One thing though, OP, there's some civil unrest with the Syria thing...lots of refugees there, and protesting.. have a good time but at least be aware of your surroundings.
