Looking to buy an all purpose drill.
Just something for around the house/light carpentry

Was thinking a dewalt or makita. I have a porter cable, but it's a bit outdated and clumsy.

I borrowed a friends makita awhile back
It was compact light weight and powerful

Suggestions?

Get a Milwaukee m18 hammer drill kit.

That side piece comes off.

Two year warranty on the tool. Five year on the battery. It's a no Brainer.

I'm a makita fan. Get the impact/drill set from HD for $300 or so

If that's the case, go Ryobi. Get more bang for the buck for your usage needs. Get the drill/Impact kit for about $125 when on sale.

I'd get the 21v Lion DeWalt hammer drill in a heartbeat.

You'll regret not paying a little extra for the hammer drill.

No such thing. But then again there's no such thing as a 20v either

Makita makes their own motors. First to use li-ion batteries, first brushless, charges in half the time as dewalt or Milwaukee. Lower return rate in the industry. 3 year warranty on all batteries, tools, and chargers.

I have all porter cable tools. I will also stick with those because I dont want to have 20 different batteries. If most of your hand tools are a certain brand I would stick with those

When you operate this milwaukee. It will make you feel like a red blooded American man whose wife is cooking him a bacon wrapped filet while you put the finishing touches on your sons three story tree house. If you want to be feel like a little bitch putting together IKEA furniture. Then yeah go with the Ryobi/Mikita.

Milwaukee fuel if it's getting a lot of use and you want top of the line (excluding the really high end stuff)

Ridgid if you want the best warranty and bang for the buck

Been a fan of the Dewalt brushless. You can get a couple of different sets from HD and they'll go on sale from time to time via Amazon. I got my set (hammer drill and driver) during Balck Friday sales a couple of years ago. Been great.

Milwaukee or Ridgid v12, they are small, lightweight but powerful enough. They also charge very quick, in about 30 minutes. The ridgids have a lifetime warranty on the batteries.

If your just driving screws. The driver is fine, but your limited. What if you are on a project that requires you using a drill bit larger than 1/4"? Get the m18 fuel op

There it is, the 'ol dick measuring contest.

Per reviews Makita and Dewalt are better, but we are not talking a drill for professional needs. It's just light carpentry needs.

Hell, I have horses, so I need a drill for the stables and fences and my Ryobi works just fine for the sometimes heavy construction needs.

Ryobi has features of the better brands but cheaper. Thus more bang for the buck for the non construction worker.
