I live in Jacksonville and love Atlantic Ocean and beaches. Real waves, 80 something degrees, great sea shells. Go to Cocoa Beach since you're limited for time.

What's the parking situation like on Clearwater Beach?

Plenty of parking, it is kind of a bitch on weekends though. There are plenty of other beaches in the clearwater/st. Pete area though. I usually go to pass-a-grille which is a little less crowded

take the family to the beach

There's only one beach that fits the bill, and it's quite nice Playalinda beach at the Canaveral National seashore. Google the place, pack a picnic and enjoy.

Forget Cocoa, New Smyrna, etc. -- this is the place for a family.

Traffic depends on where your meeting is. Taking the tolls to the east coast and avoiding I-4 is your best bet.

Yep. Beaches here are a totally different scene than the gulf. Being able to actually walk, run, and ride a bike on the beach makes for a much different experience. But if you want to pretend you're somewhere exotic while laying there gazing at the water it may not be for you.

I was an enlisted Nuke student in Orlando from 96-97.

Went back to NTC Orlando in the early 00's with the family and was amazed at how everything was gone!

Head east to the Atlantic instead of west. You will save yourself an hour or two. Traffic should be a lot lighter too if you headed to the Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach area.

I was there 6 years ahead of you.

It's amazing how much money they spent on renovations in the early-mid 90s, only to close it and then see it all completely bulldozed within 10 years of closing.

Clearwater is too far away IMHO. You have to drive the length of I4 and then all the way through Tampa and clearwater to get there. Parking is scarce on the weekend.

I would suggest New Smyrna as the best family beach area that is close to Orlando.

Cocoa Beach is a dump and so is Daytona.

St Augustine/Crescent are the best but, it may be a little too far away if your the is compressed.

Grew up an hour from Orlando. The answers are:
New Symrna Beach if you want a small beach town, and a little more commerce and activity. Still 95% locals.
Ponce Inlet if you want a little secluded and absolutely beautiful beach reminiscent of the FL Gulf Beaches. You will have to walk a ways on the boardwalk across the dunes to get there crom the parking area, but worth.

Cool story bro that is remotely related. I went to high school in Daytona and used to surf Ponce Inlet in the morning before school. One day my buddy and I were toting our boards walking down the long board walk to the beach. There were red spots all along it, clearly blood, for the whole length of the walk on the wood. When we were sitting out there waiting on waves we heard the evening before a surfer had been bit by a shark right at dusk, and had to hike the length of the boardwalk to meet the ambulance because he was alone.

Sebastian Inlet Seashells suites resort. Awesome place, stayed there many times very secluded and extremely clean.
