Very eerie closing shot there, with the empty streets and blown-to-shite buildings.

It's strange to feel sympathetic for the people in that video, knowing they all likely supported the Third Reich, but I couldn't help it. The Soviets were about to make them pay dearly.

The Man in the High Castle's Berlin

It is good the Nazi's lost, but Berlin would have beyond amazing if they had won. Germans were on their game for innovation and science.

Old color photographs and video footage is fascinating to me. I think black and white kind of detaches us from things that happened so long ago, but when you see it in color, it's much more relate-able. Just look at this color photograph from Russia in 1910:

I don't think there is necessarily anything wrong with feeling a measure of sympathy for the German people.

Hell ... East Berlin still looked pretty much like that the times I visited there from the mid 70s through the mid 80s.

Passing from the West through Checkpoint Charlie into the East was like going back through a time warp.

To be fair, they'd been through 6 years of war, the latter of which Germany went through food rationing and had very major logistical issues. I'm sure there were more fatties in peacetime.

It's hard to feel sympathy for the people that lived in towns around concentration camps. Especially when they played ignorant to what the Germans were doing to the Jews in those camps.

Which army would you rather have occupy your city...the Red Army or the Wehrmacht?

Eh. How do you know what they knew?
Would you have risked yours and your family's lives to do find out or to do something about it if you found out? Probably not.
