Hi all -

Have a loved one who suffers from depression. Twice in the last week has attempted to harm themselves. Obviously needs treatment, but I'm not sure if the Baton Rouge public system is going to be very effective.

Does anyone recommend any sort of behavioral health centers around?

Is it just depression or is it depression as the result of alcohol or drug use?

If it's that bad go to the ER and get help immediately and they will have resources

We did that Sunday. He was released yesterday. Incident again today. Baton Rouge public health system is not what we're looking for. They'll keep him there for two weeks and not accomplish anything.

Trying to find a recommendation on a private facility, if anyone has any experience ?

sounds like their condition is more serious than depression. Maybe your family should have this person admitted. Since this person is a threat to himself the sheriff department will come and transport them to the hospital. In the meantime your family can make calls and find the right mental health specialist that best suits your family member. It seems his mental condition needs to be properly diagnosed

Could take them to coroner's office for emergency commitment. Any insurance?

OLOL

(225) 765-6005

I would call immediately since
A) self harm has been attempted
B) was attempted recently
C) Friday night and weekends pose a higher risk

Get off the internet and get them help.

*just read the above post and will try to find a private facility

Is this person willing to voluntarily check himself into a private facility? Mental disorders are not easy to diagnose. Sometimes it will take several trips to the ER-Mental health facility to get proper diagnoses.

So to answer most of the above:

Yes insurance.

I'm aware of the sheriff etc. this all just happened on Saturday/Sunday. Went to the hospital, went to a public facility, was held til yesterday and released.

It's a teenager (19) we are talking about. He's dramatic. IMO I don't think he would have actually gone through with anything, but he needs help and i don't think BR public system is the place to get it.

If someone has experience with the public system (I don't) and thinks I'm wrong, I'm open to that too

I just feel it's more productive to get him in to a real treatment program and a private facility.

If I'm wrong let me know, by all means.

1. Sunday - Lined up a bunch of pills. Didn't take any. Called his therapist and said he wanted to. Therapist called sheriff etc.

2. Today - Cut himself on the wrists, but not deeply. Said he wanted to but didn't.

I really can't tell if he needs professional help or just a good Dad's arse whoopin

Why was he released so rapidly from the hospital?

Is he taking his medication? Is he willing to voluntarily go to a private facility?

Family members made the mistake of thinking the same about my cousin last month. We had his memorial service last Saturday. Shot himself. Get him help IMMEDIATELY.

They said because he's been getting professional and help and was receiving treatment on the outside.
