Bachelor Party in Austin, San Diego, or Denver

Looking for recommendations on which city to choose, as well as things to avoid or make sure to do. I've already allotted 90% of our budget to hookers and blow, so no need to recommend the obvious.
For Austin:
Is Lake Travis too far away to book a house there? Is franklins bbq worth the line? Do the homeless people there fight for fun or do we have to pay them?
TIA.

Nope, not a dick move at all. I am normally the first to use the search function, but didn't in this case. Well played and my apologies.

don't do this. stay in downtown and travel to the lake on a shuttle or something

no food on earth is worth that line, especially limited time there, and especially bbq
quote:

hipsters dont fight
p.s. and go to rainey street if it still exists

Palazio>Yellow Rose if you're wanting to go to strip clubs. Top Golf is always fun although its about a 20 minute trip from downtown. Plenty of places to have a good time.

Appreciate that. Lake Travis looks great but it seems like we would be semi-stuck there if that's where we stayed.
Will be going around October so may try and tailgate and catch a UT game while we are there.

no problem. you would definitely be stuck at lake travis. definitely stay downtown in austin. so awesome to walk everywhere.
on a bachelor party i went on there (i also went to school there for 2 years), we went paintballing on day (hot as frick) but it was awesome. I could track down the name of the place if youre interested. none of us were paintballers, but I highly recommend.
Dont do strip clubs, such a waste of time and money when you have downtown right there and there will be no less than 30 bachelorette parties you see looking to get wild
also, UT games are pretty lame, especially the tailgating. just a heads up. dont expect anything close to an LSU party

Surprised UT doesn't have a better tailgating scene...
I haven't played paintball since middle school but that would actually be fun as hell. Bunch of drunk, out of shape 30-year olds shooting at each other.

Not to complicate things, and I may do a title change, but my top three options are Austin, San Diego, and Denver.
San Diego would be my top choice, but Austin is currently in the lead due to the convenience factor for all the people I know living in Louisiana still. Anyone have a reason why one city would be best? I think all three would be valid options.

Threw my best friend his in Austin. Ate at the oasis to start off the day Did paint ball after, then 6th street that night, and finally the yellow rose

If you want to spend most of your time out there, no. If you want to spend most of your time in Austin, yes. If you want to stay somewhere on the water near Austin, try to find a vacation rental on Lake Austin.

For a resident, no. If you are visiting and have time, absolutely, but if you don't want to wait in line for hours, there are options that are only marginally not as good as Franklin, like LA BBQ (1 hour wait-ish), John Mueller Meat Co, and Mickelthwaites.
Don't pay the homeless.

I think Denver should be eliminated. It's a fine town but not much of a destination in winter if you're not going to the mountains.
San Diego would be awesome right now. The weather is always perfect and there is a great weekend to be had pretty easily. You could have a night bar hopping at Pacific Beach or OB, a decent dinner somewhere scenic (Coronado, La Jolla, Gas Lamp), and a sailing trip aboard Stars & Stripes or one of the other sight seeing boats during an afternoon. Not to mention all the breweries to tour, the USS Midway, the beach, etc.
How is Austin a convenient drive from La? Hell, it's a 5 hour drive from Lake Charles. I would much prefer to fly in and fly home when the weekend is over - nothing kills me like a Sunday hungover drive.
I like your thinking though of these random fun cities. Mine was in Louisville, KY and probably the most fun one I've been on. We went bar hopping Thursday night, went to bourbon distilleries Friday, and had 2 tables on millionaire's row at Churchill all day Saturday on the weekend of Preakness (it was ~$40/person). Also went to a mediocre strip club and ate like kings. Everyone left happy.

Yes. It's further than it looks on a map and the drive is dangerous at night if you are drunk. If you stay out there you will be semi-stuck out there. That's fine if it is summer and you have a boat and are a lake person. But if you want to do stuff in town it will be a major pain.
BTW - The Oasis is a tourist trap. I don't understand why people always recommend that out-of-towers go there to eat/drink. If you want to drink with a lake view, just go to Hula Hut or Abel's on the Lake on Lake Austin. It's right by downtown. The cab or Uber will be much cheaper and you will use much less time to achieve the same outcome.

Austin seems like a popular destination for bachelor parties and rightfully so.
That being said, I recently visited some family recently in Asheville, NC. That would be one hell of a bachelor party spot as well.

Asheville is what Austin was in the '70s. Love that town.

I agree. I went for the first time and was very impressed with it.
Austin has changed for the better (business) and for worse (losing its identity).

Nothing is worth that line. It's really silly and stupid.
Go to Stiles Switch. It's almost as good and there's no line.

Yep, it's a mixed bag. I can see both sides. Sometime I lament the loss of the small town feel, the true uniqueness, the real independence, and relative obscurity, but at other times - like when it comes to having a job or having a zillion great restaurant and bar opportunities, brand new upscale grocery stores and movie theaters everywhere, I am thankful for it. Then, when I go run the trail around the lake and there are condo developments in what used to be quiet woods, I am bummed about it again.

The homeless people there are really tame. Not as aggressive as San Francisco, NYC, New Orleans, or Houston.
Everyone there is really tame. There's basically no crime in Austin. The cops in Austin actively enforce jaywalking laws because they have nothing better to do. Seriously, don't jaywalk in Austin.
The only fights you will see will be on Dirty 6th. Stay away from there - it is not what it used to be at all and is just a bunch of thugs and scallywags now. Rainey Street has totally replaced 6th as "the scene".

I'm reading this thread, and was actively involved in the other thread. We are looking for places as we speak to get, but I just don't know where downtown. There will be roughly 15 people and I want a penthouse type atmosphere, but can't seem to find it. Any help would be appreciated.
