I couldn't imagine hurting my 3 month old like that. My blood is beginning to boil just think about it.

Any attorney who is willing to defend a piece of crap like that needs to have their arse beaten.

Sadly I have seen similar and worse at work in my years of being a peds nurse.
That poor baby. It is heartbreaking dealing with a baby with several broken bones. Depending on where the broken bones are...you can't hold a baby like you normally would because just doing that could cause more pain. Because of the situation...that baby is also likely in the hospital by themselves as well until CPS/Police can investigate all of the family and determine who can be considered trustworthy enough to stay with the child.

Not that it makes it better at all, but could be protecting the father

A family here in my town had something similar. The daddy was trying to sleep and the 6 month old boy was crying for a bottle, so he beat the shite out of it until it quit crying.
The baby spent about three months at Children's Hospital in Birmingham; has limited brain function; can't eat, sit upright, walk, or burp on its own. Grandma has to feed it through a tube (the mom - her daughter - hit the bricks once the child was hurt) and burp it. Grandpa decided that would be a good time to start chasing strange and he took off, too, leaving grandma more-or-less destitute. The local churches and few other generous people help pay her way to Birmingham for doctor's visits.
The sperm donor just got 25-to-life. Maybe he'll meet some real nice people at Kilby or Holman.

That's probably one of the most disgusting stories I've read in a long time. That grandmother is a Saint. Someone needs to make a GoFundMe for her and the child.
And I hope the rest of the family is publicly shamed for the rest of their miserable lives.
