Australian Shepherd - Anyone own one?

I currently have a beagle and would like to get another dog to give him some company. I really like this breed and wanted to see if anyone has one and can shed some light. Do they do well with other dogs? What about kids? I have a large back yard, as i know they need plenty of exercise. The SO isn't big on having 2 dogs in the house. What are some things i can tell her to get her to warm up to 2 dogs. I figured 1 more can't be that hard.

I have a mini, same personalities
Yes and yes, they have a strong herding instinct though
Australian Shepherds are fricking adorable. Just get a puppy and she won't be able to say no.

I have one.
Smartest dog I have ever owned. He can unlock a deadbolt and open the door. Lock is not double cylinder, but has one of those twist knobs to unlock it.
Great dog, he does shed, he also pees on the tires of anyone who parks in "his" driveway.

They're extremely trainable - much more so than a beagle - if that matters.

They are awesome and have lots of energy in my experience. Fantastic choice.

Uncle had a blue merle .. Awesome dog... Very obedient and loyal..
Neighbors down the street had a red merle they got from a rescue, he was bat shite crazy.. They had to put him down after he bit the mailman three different times... They did everything they could to help the dog but nothing worked.. They found out the previous owner abused him.. very sad..

Also he will herd any cats, dogs, kids that you have. And he will do it with enthusiasm. Turn him loose and watch the magic. It's really amazing. They have big time personalities too that are evident. They are smart enough to tell you exactly what they want and need using their own ways.
A few other dogs that are the same way are:
Border Collie
McNab Border Collie

we have an aussie/chocco lab mix
If they have an issue, it would be that they can try to herd children. Full aussies are very energetic.
excellent watch dogs, and very loving.
they put their head against yours, it's their way of hugging. It's funny and cool.
Great dogs, and with her ebing part chocco lab, we got the 2 best in the dog world, aussie and lab.

Tons of energy, as I can play fetch in the back yard and take them on a walk and they will be good?

Mine pisses everywhere outside. When we go on a run he will stop as many times as I will allow for him to piss on neighbors fences. They are quick learners but mine can be stubborn at times.

I can take him on a 3 mile run and he will be ready to play fetch when we get home. At the same time if I'm being lazy he will usually be lazy too. That or find something to chew up. He likes toilet paper rolls.

Don't teach it to fetch or catch a frisbee. That is all ours wants to do 24/7. It was cool at first but not when it's cold as shite outside.

Is that the same as a Cattledog?
Posted on 1/18/17 at 2:52 pm to Isabelle81
this is basically what they look like as puppies. you will get 2 or even 3 of the colors and looks.

Our aussie mix had the blueish, husky type eyes, but as she got older, they changed.
