For the vast majority of people, Next is cheaper.

But I think they underestimated the stupidity of the average customer.

False.

AT&T told me that my bill will remain the same and the $25 a month for the phone will be added.

So instead of paying a $200 upgrade fee, I now pay full price.

So the upgrade now is the "privilege" of paying full price for a new phone on a payment plan. The sales chick trying to pitch me on how this was such a great deal lmao.

you' ve always paid full price . Say you buy the phone for $199 Bucks the plan is $40 a month for two years which is $960 plus the $199 you paid puts you at $1,159...... The installment plan is cheaper $25 for phone $15 for plan is $40.00 a month for 2 years is $960......

Your bill would stay the same. HOWEVER your line access would be $40 for 24 months.

I'm no mathematician but $40x24 is $960, $200 for the iphone, and the activation fee is $1200 for 2 years.

You really think AT&T can afford to hand out phones?

Why don't y'all just go to Sprint or T-Mobile if you think AT&T is trying to screw you?

Do you also run to the phone when infomercials say if you're one of the next 100 callers, you get a special offers price?

Or do you think you got a "good deal" because they slashed prices, although it's not the actual intended price?

The subtle social psychological techniques of marketing are very effective.

Yeah I did the 2 yr plan over a yr ago and paid the $200. I was then told my reduced data plan is lost if you get the 2 yr over the next plan. Which means I am paying 20 dollars or more a month which is their underhanded way of making me pay for the phone indirectly.

Pretty shitty business practice but Im stuck like chuck unless I switch to cricket or something I suppose.

Negative. It IS $40/month for the line, but they give you a $25 line discount if you purchase through NEXT plan, so the net effect is $15/line then add the $25 for the phone = $40 month, and you don't have to pay the $200 flat phone charge or $40 upgrade fee like before

I never once paid $200 upfront for a 2 yr upgrade phone. So it costs me more in the long run. A fair amount more.

Under next, you're not under contract.

So you never bought a brand new iPhone when your 2-year contract was up and it was time to renew?

But it basically evens out since you get a service discount off of your plan.

So if I could just just buy a 6s from Apple or Best Buy for 400$, how much should I be paying a month for an unlimited plan from AT&T

No it didn't. Each line had to pay a 40 dollar per month access fee. With next, you get the access fee for 15. How is this so hard to fricking understand?

Sounds like you screwed yourself by signing a 2 year contract and getting Next.
