For losing their switch?

It is very much a unique event. But very irresponsible for them to have vital equipment that keep the cell phones in the area working on ground level. Should be on a 2nd floor at the very least.

AT&T is fixing to lose a shite ton of customers and money over this bullshite. This was the worst tim ever they could fail their customers.
Who knows if someone got killed or seriously got hurt because of the lack of communication this provided?

I keep seeing people say this but it's not like this has happened before. Maybe some people will still be so mad they go and change cell phone providers in a week or so but I think you are over estimating. switching cell phone companies is a pain in the arse

Still can't reach my family in BR

was a unique event for all carriers. why was at&t the only one to fail?

I'm trying to be realistic and realize that this is an incredibly unique event and probably not anyone's fault, but yeah this is horrible for thousands of people left in the dark about their families.
Maybe, but it's real bad optics when all of your competitors stay up and you don't. My TMO service never missed a beat and others said VZ didn't either.

Bad luck with location.

Do you realize that many of the companies learned their lesson after Katrina and started moving the switch rooms from what traditionally used to be ground level to upper levels in buildings?
Bad luck my arse. We're not talking about the network rack for Acme, Inc. We're talking about the switches needed for all cell service to work in metro Baton Rouge area.

I agree, some were able to do so.
I would say being down 12hrs after historic flooding isn't that big a deal.
Especially since all of these networks are built nearly the same by the same contractors. Failures come down to luck usually. I don't know what failed in this situation, maybe it was their fault. Seems pretty early to determine that.

I hope everyone cancels.
They are the kings of poor planning and using old equipment.

I expect a "generous" credit on my bill this month.

Partially. Not for everyone.

I'm sure you know more about this, but why did AT&T lack failover for switches during Katrina? And why do I always have Verizon service?
The problems they had now really remind me of Katrina.
